Our client is a global trading, logistics, and distribution company headquartered in Belgium, with over 180 locations worldwide. Our client specializes in the distribution of chemicals across emerging markets worldwide, focusing on industries such as home care, nutrition, and mining. The company has its own local logistics assets and provides services including storage, value-added logistics, and just-in-time deliveries. With over 3000 employees the annual revenues exceed 2.5 billion USD, reflecting its significant presence in the chemical distribution sector.
To strengthen the global IT team, our client is looking for a BI Data Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and models to support business intelligence and reporting needs across global operations. The role ensures high-quality, trusted data is available for analytics, decision-making, and performance management. The BI Data Engineer will translate business needs into technical specifications and solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and build ETL/ELT pipelines to extract data from diverse sources;
- Develop and optimise data models for BI and analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI, Azure).
- Implement and manage data quality rules and data validation logic.
- Collaborate with business users to understand reporting requirements.
- Maintain and enhance the enterprise data warehouse environment.
- Ensure security, compliance, and access controls on BI data assets.
- Monitor data loads and resolve data-related issues.
- Document data pipelines, structures, and technical specifications.
- Support self-service BI by enabling standardised and trusted data sets.
- Continuously optimise queries and storage to improve performance.
- Performing technical analysis & solution design for projects and requests assigned to the team.
Requirements
- Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
- 5 years of relevant experience in (backend) data engineering
- Strong skills in SQL, data warehousing, and data modelling
- Experience with Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Fabric, SQL, Azure DEVOPS (boards & CI/CD pipelines),
- Good knowledge of ETL/ELT best practices, and scripting (Python, DAX)
- Good understanding of data governance, security, and lifecycle management
- Fluent in English
