The Role – Senior AI Engineer

This is the first dedicated AI-focused engineering hire within the organisation, offering a unique opportunity to shape and build AI-powered product capabilities from the ground up.

This is not a research or data science role, it is a hands-on software engineering position focused on building production-grade AI-powered features and systems that directly improve the core product.

You will work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to identify opportunities where AI can create real value, and then design, build, and deploy those solutions into production.

Key areas of focus include:

• Building AI-powered product features using LLMs and modern AI tooling

• Designing and implementing backend services that integrate AI capabilities

• Automating workflows and improving product efficiency through intelligent systems

• Building scalable, reliable, production-ready AI-enabled services

• Exploring and implementing new AI-driven functionality across the product

This role offers strong ownership, autonomy, and the opportunity to directly influence how AI is integrated into a growing product platform.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy production-grade AI-powered features

• Integrate LLM APIs and AI tooling into backend systems and product workflows

• Develop scalable backend services and APIs supporting AI functionality

• Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to identify AI opportunities

• Design reliable, maintainable, and scalable systems supporting AI-driven features

• Contribute to architectural decisions and engineering best practices

• Work across the full product lifecycle from idea through to production deployment

Technical Environment

You will work within a modern, cloud-native architecture including:

Backend: Kotlin, Spring Boot

Frontend: Next.js, React, modern JavaScript frameworks

Mobile: Swift and Kotlin

AI / LLMs: Model APIs, prompt engineering, AI integrations

Infrastructure: AWS, GCP

Architecture: Microservices, distributed systems

API Layer: GraphQL

Experience with all technologies is not required, strong engineering fundamentals and AI product experience are the priority.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience

• Strong backend or full stack engineering experience

• Experience building or integrating AI / LLM-powered features into real products

• Experience working with modern backend technologies and APIs

• Strong system design and software engineering fundamentals

• Experience building scalable, production-grade software systems

• Strong communication and collaboration skills

• Product mindset and ability to solve real business problems

Bonus experience:

• Experience with Kotlin, Python, or JVM-based backend systems

• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP

• Experience designing automation workflows or AI-powered tooling
