Decommissioning Engineer | Freelance | Fully Remote
We’re supporting a large enterprise client seeking a Decommissioning Engineer to lead the safe shutdown and retirement of infrastructure and network devices, ensuring robust processes, risk mitigation, compliance, and full lifecycle documentation.
This is a key role within a major transformation programme, working alongside engineering, security, and project teams to decommission legacy environments with minimal disruption.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute decommissioning activities across network and infrastructure assets
- Ensure devices are safely shut down, removed, and retired in line with governance and compliance standards
- Conduct risk assessments and manage issues throughout the decommissioning lifecycle
- Maintain accurate asset records and documentation (e.g. ServiceNow)
- Collaborate with engineering, NetOps, and project teams to coordinate activities
Requirements:
- Proven experience in infrastructure or network decommissioning
- Strong understanding of risk, compliance, and change management processes
- Experience working in large, enterprise environments
- Familiarity with asset management and documentation tools
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work autonomously
