Team/division Description
Your team and your responsibilities
You will join the Material Engineering division within R&D. Our mission is to develop ever‑better materials for Toyota vehicles, with a strong focus on carbon neutrality, circular economy and environmental performance. The team supports multiple functions by designing, testing, validating and implementing advanced materials that ensure durability, sustainability and top‑class quality.
Your project
- Develop, maintain and optimize the data pipeline for Toyota’s European environmental corrosion prediction model
- Perform data engineering on real‑time environmental datasets (cleaning, structuring, feature extraction, automation)
- Conduct data science and machine learning research to enhance prediction accuracy and expand model capabilities
- Run experimental studies in the materials laboratory to characterize collected samples and validate model outputs
- Document findings, models and tools in a structured and reproducible format
- Optionally contribute to related digitalization projects in the team (Machine Vision, LLM-based workflows, Data Management)
- Additionally, side small project related to visualization of color profitability data on power BI tool will be carried out to adapt existing report to new input format.
- You are fluent in English (TME’s business language)
- You have a strong interest in AI, data science, material science, or applied machine learning in an industrial R&D environment
- You have experience with Python and core data libraries (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit‑learn, etc.)
- You have basic knowledge of machine learning concepts and data science methodologies
- You have experience with SQL and working with structured datasets
- You have an interest or initial experience with LLM‑assisted development or generative AI tools
- You are curious, hands‑on and eager to work both with digital tools and physical laboratory experiments
- You enjoy exploring data, validating results, and proposing improvements based on analytical thinking
- You are proactive, structured, and comfortable working in an interdisciplinary environment

Due to business requirement, not all performed projects can be reflected in the internship report. This issue needs to be discussed with candidate/school in advance.
It is mandatory that applicants are students for the entire period of the internship.
We can only accept students with an EEA or Swiss citizenship (not requiring a work permit or visa to be eligible to perform an internship in Belgium)
