As a Production Engineer, you will blend software and systems engineering to ensure Uber's services run reliably at a massive scale. This isn't just about maintaining uptime; it's about architecting solutions for high-traffic distributed systems where performance and safety cannot be separated. You will navigate technical debt and shifting priorities while keeping the experience of millions of global users in mind. What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain systems that directly support how people and things move in the real world - where performance, safety, and scale can't be separated.
• Solve messy, high-impact problems in fast-changing environments - often without a clear starting point or obvious solution.
• Work with internal stakeholders to deeply understand their services and architect solutions to their reliability issues, building tooling and services to aid reliability Uber-wide.
• Debug Uber-scale reliability issues, working across multiple services and domains to improve availability for our customers.
• Own your work end-to-end: from the first design doc and collaborative planning to debugging production issues when stakes are high.
• Champion engineering best practices like code health, testing, and design clarity - even when time is tight and pressure is high.
• Collaborate across disciplines to ship thoughtful, practical solutions at speed and advocate for Production Engineering and reliability across the company.
  
  

Basic Qualifications

• 4+ years working in Go, Java, C++, or Python.
• Experience building, maintaining, and debugging production services or platforms.
• Experience implementing complex software architectures with multiple dependencies.
• Experience analyzing, monitoring, and troubleshooting large-scale, high-traffic distributed systems.
• Experience communicating with technical teams and leadership to collect requirements and describe technical designs.
• Strong technical writing skills for creating detailed documentation and operations runbooks.

• Experience shipping high-quality product features on schedule and with high velocity.
• Experience assisting engineers in solving production incidents and providing guidance during postmortems.
• Ability to think in systems and stay calm under pressure.
• Flexibility to collaborate with stakeholders across different timezones.
