Hacksaw Studios is a fast-growing studio building premium online games played in both social gaming and real-money modes. Our games reach millions of players every month across the globe, and quality is at the heart of everything we do. As we scale our team in Bucharest, we're looking for a QA Team Lead to grow a high-performing QA team.
The QA Team Lead is a senior individual contributor responsible for defining, driving and continuously raising quality standards across Hacksaw Studios' game portfolio. You will work hand-in-hand with multiple teams within the organization. This is a high-ownership role in a dynamic, growing studio — well-suited to someone who enjoys bringing structure and clarity to a scaling team.
What You'll Do:
QA Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor and grow a team of QA Specialists — owning their day-to-day direction, professional development and performance.
- Conduct regular 1-on-1s, structured feedback sessions and performance conversations to keep the team motivated and progressing.
- Build a culture of quality ownership within the team, where every member understands the 'why' behind the standards, not just the 'what'.
- Act as the primary QA voice in stakeholder meetings, representing the team's capacity and priorities.
- Collaborate closely with multiple teams — staying informed on compliance requirements and ensuring the QA team's work accounts for them.
Process Design & Continuous Improvement
- Define, document and continuously refine QA processes, workflows and standards to keep pace with the studio's growth and evolving release cadence.
- Establish and enforce test plan and test case authoring standards across the team, reviewing and signing off on all key QA documentation.
- Design and own the bug lifecycle process — from triage and prioritisation through to verified regression — ensuring consistency and traceability across projects.
- Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies and risk areas in current workflows and implement targeted improvements with measurable outcomes.
- Define QA KPIs and quality metrics and report trends and insights to leadership on a regular basis.
- Drive tooling decisions and evaluate new approaches (including automation opportunities) to scale the team's effectiveness without scaling headcount proportionally.
Gap Assessment & Training
- Conduct regular capability assessments across the QA team to identify individual and collective skill gaps against current and future needs.
- Develop and deliver structured training programmes, onboarding plans and knowledge-sharing sessions to close identified gaps.
- Create and maintain a QA knowledge base — test guidelines, process playbooks, platform-specific testing notes — ensuring the team always has up-to-date reference material.
- Partner with hiring managers on defining QA role requirements and assessing candidates as the team scales.
- Monitor team output quality over time and use findings to feed back into training priorities and process updates.
What We're Looking For:
Must-Have
- 4+ years of hands-on QA experience, with at least 1–2 years in a leadership position.
- Proven ability to design end-to-end test strategies and author high-quality test plans and test cases.
- Strong analytical skills with a sharp eye for detail; ability to read and understand technical specifications.
- Solid knowledge of QA processes, methodologies (Agile/Scrum, shift-left, risk-based testing) and best practices.
- Experience managing bug lifecycles in defect-tracking tools (e.g. Jira, TestRail or equivalent).
- Track record of delivering quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
Nice-to-Have
- Background in online gaming, iGaming or a similarly regulated, consumer-facing software domain.
- Experience with test automation frameworks (Selenium, Playwright, Cypress or similar); automation mindset strongly valued.
- Familiarity with multi-platform testing across Windows, macOS, iOS and Android.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary benchmarked to your experience and leadership scope.
- 23 days of paid holiday per year.
- Monthly benefit budget on Benefit Edenred (meal vouchers, gym, health, culture and more).
- A modern office in Bucharest with an experienced, collaborative team.
- The opportunity to shape the QA discipline from the ground up in a scaling studio — your decisions will matter.
Please note: this is a full-time, on-site position based in our Bucharest office.
