What You’ll Be Responsible For
Reporting to the VP, Partnerships & Business Development, EMEA, the Director of Business Development – Europe will lead strategic payments partnerships across the region.
This is a senior role responsible for originating, structuring, negotiating, and closing high-impact commercial agreements that expand adoption of USDC and EURC in real-world payment flows.
You will own the full partnership lifecycle—from pipeline development to contract execution and post-deal expansion—while collaborating cross-functionally to ensure successful activation and scaled growth.
This role requires executive presence, strong payments domain expertise, and the ability to navigate complex operational environments.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Developing and executing Circle’s European payments partnership strategy, focused on driving real-world payment use cases through PSPs, remittance providers, and fintech platforms.
- Driving revenue growth and measurable OKRs tied to transaction volume and product adoption.
- Owning the full deal lifecycle: sourcing, qualification, business case development, structuring, negotiation, and closure.
- Expanding USDC and EURC adoption in cross-border payments, treasury flows, merchant settlement, and embedded finance use cases.
- Structuring bespoke, first-of-their-kind partnerships that integrate Circle’s APIs and infrastructure into regulated financial institutions and payment ecosystems.
- Partnering closely with Product, Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Engineering to execute complex deals in a regulated and evolving digital asset landscape.
- Leading executive-level conversations with C-suite stakeholders and influencing strategic roadmaps at major financial institutions.
- Building long-term ecosystem value by identifying scalable distribution channels and strategic network effects across Europe.
Core requirements
- 12+ years of experience in business development, strategic partnerships, or commercial leadership roles.
- 7+ years of experience in payments, fintech, banking, or financial infrastructure.
- Deep knowledge of European payments ecosystems, including cross-border flows, SEPA, open banking, embedded finance, correspondent banking, and settlement infrastructure.
- Proven track record of structuring and closing complex, high-value deals with regulated financial institutions and enterprise partners.
- Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated ownership of revenue targets and pipeline management.
- Ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous environments and build new categories from early-stage adoption to scaled deployment.
- Strong executive communication and negotiation skills.
- Fluency in English required; additional European languages are a plus.
- Willingness to travel across Europe (30–50% seasonally).
- Experience navigating regulatory frameworks and working closely with compliance and risk stakeholders.
- Experience in digital assets, blockchain infrastructure, or stablecoins is strongly preferred.
