Calibrium is an independent, professional and regulated investment office providing bespoke investment services to a select group of clients. We are looking for a highly motivated professional to join our company for an

Internship in Investment Operations (AI & Automation Enablement Focus)

Starting Date asap, for 12 months, full-time

Your role:

As an intern in our Investment Operations team, you will have the opportunity to experience a role that combines traditional finance operations mixed with cutting-edge automation. You will support all investment divisions (Liquid, Private Equity, and Real Estate) while gaining hands-on experience of the Middle Office, Trade Operations, and Treasury functions.

We are looking for a "Builder." You will not just manage daily tasks - you will help us redefine them. We want a candidate who can view every manual task as an automation opportunity and one who is willing and able to use technology to improve operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • AI-Enabled Automation: Identify bottlenecks in manual processes throughout the investment operations lifecycle (e.g., data extraction from PDFs, reconciliation breaks) and prototype automated solutions with the help of Python as well as AI tools such as Claude Code, Codex and LLMs.
  • Digital Transformation: In partnership with IT, assist in migrating automation “prototypes” into scalable and “production ready” business solutions. You will also work with “no-code, workplace tools” such as Cowork to automate team tasks quickly for productivity gains.
  • Treasury & Cash Management: Monitor liquidity and collateral requirements, handle high-value payments, and reconcile transactions between global banks and internal systems. Manage the opening & closing of bank accounts.
  • Trade & Position Management: Ensure timely trade booking and reconciliation of cash/security transactions with custodians and brokers. You will be responsible for investigating "breaks" to ensure seamless settlement and high-quality reporting.
  • Stakeholder & Relationship Management: Oversight of custodians, brokers, banks and administrators to maintain and improve service delivery levels.
  • Regulatory and Internal Controls & Audit: Oversight of regulatory reporting and monitoring of IO workflow controls for our annual ISAE 3000 audit with the view to recommend how automation can reduce errors and improve compliance.

Requirements:

  • The "AI-First" Mindset: A strong interest in - and a flair for - applying LLMs (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) and AI coding agents (e.g., Codex, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to professional workflows. You should be able to demonstrate how you’ve used these tools to improve efficiency or to solve a problem.
  • Python & Technical Aptitude: Proficiency in Python (particularly libraries like Pandas for data manipulation). You don’t need to be a software engineer, but you should be comfortable writing and debugging scripts with the help of AI.
  • Proactive Problem Solver: A self-starter with high drive. You take the initiative to research, prototype, and implement a creative solution to issues you have identified.
  • Financial Foundation: Some prior experience in financial services or operations (internships or entry-level roles), ideally with exposure to banking or major custodians.
  • Operational Precision: You possess the attention to detail required for Treasury and Trade Operations. In middle-office functions, accuracy is non-negotiable.
  • Adaptability & Change Management: Experience with - or a high motivation for - change management initiatives. You are comfortable moving from a "business-as-usual" task to a development project.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent command of written and spoken English (German is a plus). You are comfortable explaining technical automation logic to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Systems Knowledge: Strong Microsoft Excel skills are essential. General understanding of Enterprise Data Management tools and experience with (or willingness to learn) industry-standard tools such as Efront, Thinkfolio.
