Job Title: Electrical Software Engineer
General Responsibilities:
- Support the design, development, testing, and commissioning of parts, equipment, and skid-based process systems for various nuclear projects.
- Apply systems engineering principles—covering software, PLC, and control systems—to develop custom equipment, tooling, and automation systems.
- Prepare comprehensive design documentation including design plans, requirements, traceability matrices, and other technical outputs.
- Design and develop control systems using tools such as C#, C++, Siemens, Schneider, Beckhoff, and others.
- Define equipment specifications across electrical, software, and instrumentation & control (I&C) domains.
- Identify and liaise with equipment suppliers, conduct site visits, review schematics and testing procedures to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Translate conceptual designs into detailed engineering packages under the guidance of Technical Leads and Subject Matter Experts.
- Create accurate test procedures for functional and factory acceptance testing in accordance with Kinectrics' quality program.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, process) to develop control philosophies and select instrumentation.
- Prepare technical documentation including evaluations, test plans, data analyses, procedures, and final reports.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, consultants, and internal teams.
- Contribute to procurement engineering activities such as inspection plans, scopes of work, and risk identification.
- Participate in R&D initiatives and identify process improvements based on lessons learned.
- Interpret and review process and electrical design drawings.
- Lead or support proposal development for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist with project management, including scheduling, budgeting, resource planning, and contract administration.
- Provide technical support to the Department Manager and project teams.
- Travel to client sites for meetings, inspections, and site assessments as required.
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years of engineering experience in the nuclear industry.
- Proficiency in control systems design, software development, and equipment integration.
- Experience in system design, build, FAT, and commissioning; familiarity with skid-based or process systems is an asset.
- Knowledge of nuclear quality standards (CSA N299, 10CFR50 Appendix B).
- Supplier management experience for part design and fabrication.
- Experience with CANDU technology is a strong asset.
- Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
