DevOps Engineer – 6 Month Contract – Antwerp

For a mission-critical environment in Antwerp, we are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to support and improve applications used in a semi-automated environment. In this role, you will ensure the stability, performance, and continuity of software systems that directly support real-time operations.

You will work on production systems where reliability is essential, performing incident response, root cause analysis, and structural improvements to applications running in a Linux environment.

The role

As DevOps Engineer, you will act as 2nd-line support for operational applications and will be involved in troubleshooting, development, deployment, and optimization of software used in automated and real-time systems.

You will work closely with automation engineers, infrastructure teams, and operational staff to ensure applications remain stable under high load and during continuous operations. The role requires strong Linux development experience and the ability to debug complex issues in live production environments.

This position operates in a 24/7 context where system failures can have immediate operational impact.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 2nd-line support for Linux-based production applications
• Diagnose and resolve incidents in live operational environments
• Perform log analysis, debugging, and root cause analysis
• Maintain and improve applications written in C / C++ / Python
• Optimize performance, memory usage, and concurrency behaviour
• Develop tooling, scripts, and monitoring utilities
• Work with TCP/IP networking, sockets, and system calls
• Package and release applications in controlled environments
• Participate in change and release management processes
• Implement security and hardening measures in Linux environments
• Collaborate with operations, automation, and infrastructure teams
• Participate in on-call / 24-7 support rotation when required

Required skills & experience

• Strong experience with Linux system administration
• Solid knowledge of C / C++
• Experience with Python scripting
• Good understanding of multithreading and concurrency
• Experience debugging production systems
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and sockets
• Experience with Git-based workflows
• Experience working in high-availability environments
• Ability to work under pressure in operational environments
• Fluency in Dutch
