Are you an experienced Software Engineer (C#) with high‑level, production‑grade coding skills and a background in industrial automation? Ever dreamt of developing advanced software for semiconductor inspection systems using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)? Would creating high‑performance, precision‑control software for metrology and defect‑inspection tools inspire you? Read on…
Reward and Benefits:
- £45,000-55,000 (depending on experience)
- 25 days annual leave, death in service and private health care benefits, personal pension contributions of 4% with salary sacrifice and a generous EMI Share scheme
About the role:
A typical day for a Software Engineer (C#) could look like this:
- Developing and maintaining software for AFM‑based semiconductor inspection systems using C# and .NET
- Implementing control logic for AFM scanning, precision positioning systems, and responsive feedback loops
- Building and enhancing HMI applications that support operators with clear dashboards and intuitive workflows
- Helping optimise system performance for high‑accuracy scanning, image handling, and data processing
- Collaborating closely with hardware, electronics, and applications teams to keep everything seamlessly integrated
- Taking part in hands‑on testing and validation to meet cleanroom expectations and industry standards
- Contributing to code reviews and championing best practices for clean, scalable, and maintainable software
To succeed as a Software Engineer (C#) we do need you to have experience of:
- A curious, hands‑on understanding of industrial automation, motion control, or real‑time systems — and a passion for making complex hardware behave beautifully
- A confident grasp of object‑oriented programming and modern design principles, with an eye for building clean, elegant solutions
- Strong problem‑solving instincts and a love of working collaboratively to unblock challenges and create smart, reliable software together
- Some experience with additional languages like Python or C++
- Familiarity with real‑time machine control — whether through robotics, automation, or other precision‑movement systems
- Exposure to HMI development or SCADA tools, with an interest in creating smooth, intuitive experiences for the people using them
- An understanding of cleanroom practices or safety standards, or simply an openness to learning how high‑care environments operate
- Clear, thoughtful communication and a warm, curious mindset that enjoys growing into new tools, technologies, and approaches
- Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2–4 years of experience in software development with proficiency in C#, WPF, .NET Core, and Windows-based applications
- Self-management: Able to work independently, setting priorities for own work based upon the company goals and targets.
- Teamwork: Engages with other members of the company to bring the best solutions to the problem. Recognise the value that fellow company members bring to enhance own abilities. Supports colleagues with their tasks when critical to the company goals.
- Impact and Influence: Establishes themselves as the knowledge centre in their own field.
- Ownership & Initiative: React and address both short- and medium-term issues and proactively takes action to solve them.
- Results Orientation: Focus on the company goal, avoid distraction, making timely decisions to achieve the target.
