ROLE SUMMARY

Be the analyst who builds things from zero. Own market research, buyer insights, and GTM analytics for Alibaba.com's US B2B growth — and turn those inputs into concrete go-to-market actions. This is not a reporting role; it is a zero-to-one strategy and analytics function where your research directly shapes which verticals we enter, how we acquire buyers, and where we invest.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

▸ 0→1 Market Research: Own primary and secondary research for new vertical or geography entries — buyer persona development, sourcing behavior mapping, competitive landscape, pricing benchmarks. Synthesize into a clear 'enter / don't enter' recommendation with supporting data

▸ GTM Action Planning: Translate research findings directly into GTM playbooks — define the target buyer segment, acquisition channel mix, messaging angle, and supplier requirements needed to win in each vertical. Research that doesn't produce an action plan is incomplete

▸ Buyer Funnel Analytics: Track and analyze the full US buyer funnel: registration → first search → first RFQ → first order. Identify conversion drop-off points, quantify GMV leakage, and recommend specific interventions

▸ Campaign & Channel Analysis: Measure performance of buyer acquisition campaigns (paid search, LinkedIn, trade events) — build attribution models, surface what's working by vertical and buyer type, and make reallocation recommendations

▸ Competitive Intelligence: Build and maintain a living competitive tracker: Amazon Business, Faire, Global Sources, vertical-specific platforms — pricing, buyer experience, supplier depth, and differentiation opportunities for Alibaba.com


REQUIRED BACKGROUND — WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

▸ 0→1 Experience: Must demonstrate at least one example of taking a market research project or GTM initiative from a blank page to a launched, measurable outcome — in a startup, consulting engagement, or internal new initiative context

▸ Research → Action Track Record: Consulting, investment research, or in-house strategy experience where insights were directly operationalized — not just delivered in a deck. Show us the output and what changed because of your work

▸ Analytics Depth: SQL proficiency required — tested in interview. Tableau, Looker, or equivalent dashboard experience. Python (pandas) is a plus, knowing how to complete tasks with AI is more important

▸ B2B or Trade Exposure: Experience analyzing B2B buyer behavior, supply chains, import/export economics, or cross-border commerce is strongly preferred — retail buying, sourcing, or marketplace roles count

▸ Education: Bachelor's in Economics, Statistics, Business, or a quantitative field. 3+ years of experience. MBA a plus but not required


The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $94,800/year and $156,000/year. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.


If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
