Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience with network routing protocols, design and troubleshooting, with network equipment providers.
  • Experience with IP Network, IP Peering, IP Transit, IPv4, IPv6, Peer to Peer Networks, Internet Service Provider, Border Gateway Protocol, and Network Troubleshooting.
  • Experience with scripting (i.e. Python) for automation development.
  • Experience in network infrastructure and operations.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with planning and designing large-scale networks (e.g., multiple sites, multiple products, etc.).
  • Experience working in a customer-facing role at an ISP, carrier, content network, or CDN.
  • Understanding of cloud computing, Linux server environments, network design and deployment, managing large scale infrastructure.
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.

As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to network connectivity issues. Google's complex network generates a constant stream of challenges which require you to continually be innovative with an evolving set of technologies. Google's network provides services to millions of Internet users around the world. Our metros are on the edge of our network where Google connects to its users. The Network Team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. Our team owns the full life cycle of all space, power, and network assets in all of Google’s data centers and metro points of presence globally. From the foundation, we are involved from site acquisition to construction and are accountable for what space and power is delivered. We're involved in every facet of network delivery from architecture and design to installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the quantifiable analysis of measurements or data and capacity, forecast models for making networks more scalable, efficient, and deliver predictable user experience.
  • Evaluate the current inefficiencies, complexities, and flaws in network systems, and propose designs, software, and processes to improve them.
  • Develop software that improves the performance, safety, transparency, and manageability of network systems.
  • Participate in rotating schedules with other team members, including weekends.
