About The Role

Avanti is seeking a skilled Android Developer to join its dynamic engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of a Java-based Android application that operates on secure, enterprise-grade devices. The successful candidate will be instrumental in enhancing and evolving an already deployed platform that serves critical operational functions. The role emphasizes long-term product ownership, with approximately 80% of the responsibilities centered on Android development, including designing, implementing, and refining features to meet evolving business needs. Additionally, the developer will have the chance to influence the technical direction and architectural decisions of the product as it progresses.

This is a hybrid working position based in East Sheffield, offering a flexible work environment that balances remote work with onsite collaboration. The role provides a unique chance to work on a stable, long-term product within a small, collaborative team, making a tangible impact on operational systems used in high-stakes environments. The developer will work closely with backend engineering teams, engaging throughout the entire development lifecycle—from initial design and testing to deployment and continuous improvement—ensuring the platform remains robust, secure, and user-friendly.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Android development, with proven experience in Java and native Android application creation. A solid understanding of Android beyond basic UI development is essential, including familiarity with device integrations and security considerations. Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the existing Java-based Android application, ensuring its stability, security, and continual enhancement.
• Design, develop, and implement new features and improvements based on the product roadmap.

• Participate in the full development lifecycle, including planning, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
