Most "AI Engineer" roles mean you’re wiring up an LLM API and building a dashboard around it. This isn’t one of those roles.

This role is for someone who:

• owns the full loop: customer conversations → product decisions → shipping
• builds products end-to-end (discovery → shipping → iteration)
• talks to customers and turns messy feedback into clear product decisions
• still loves to ship high-quality code (with tools like Claude Code, Codex or Cursor)

Northscope automates the finance profession (accounting and controlling) for mid-market industrial companies. We’re turning finance departments from cost centers into strategic partners.

Today, finance teams spend most of their time on manual work:

You’re a Founding Product Engineer: product-minded, customer-facing, and hands-on in development.

What you’ll do

• Partner with customers (CFOs, finance teams) to understand workflows and pain points
• Translate feedback into product improvements, experiments, and shipped features
• Work closely with Founding Team and help drive delivery and prioritization
• Build and ship user-facing product features (TypeScript/JavaScript) and backend integrations where needed
• Help shape engineering practices early (quality, testing, security, processes)

What you’ll build (examples)

• Workflows that guide finance teams from raw ERP data to insights and reports
• Product surfaces for asking questions, reviewing results, and iterating on analyses
• Integrations with finance systems (SAP, Dynamics, Excel)
• AI-enabled features that fit real enterprise workflows (not demos)

What you won’t do

• Write endless boilerplate CRUD for the sake of it
• Wait for perfect specs and Jira tickets
• Build “AI features” that don’t solve a real customer problem

Non-negotiables

• Strong product orientation: you care about outcomes and users, not just implementation
• You enjoy customer collaboration and can communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders
• Strong JavaScript/TypeScript skills (React/Next.js experience is a plus)
• You’ve shipped products to production before
• Solid understanding of security and data governance (enterprise context)
• Based in Vienna or willing to relocate (2–3 days/week in office)

Strong plus

• Experience as a Product Engineer / Product-minded full-stack engineer
• You worked with Product Owners or have been one yourself
• Experience with B2B SaaS and enterprise requirements
• Experience with finance/ERP systems or complex data integrations
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP) and Terraform (or similar)
• Interest in finance/accounting (or willingness to learn)

• Frontend: TypeScript, React, Next.js
• Backend: TypeScript/Node.js with Next.js server routes and services; Python for Azure Functions and data-processing jobs
• Data: PostgreSQL, pgvector, dbmate migrations
• AI: OpenAI/GPT and Claude/Anthropic
• Orchestration: In-house LLM routing and workflow orchestration
• Infrastructure: Azure, Terraform, containerized deployment, Azure Functions
• Integrations: SAP OData/APIs, Azure AD/Microsoft Graph, Excel/XLSX processing and automation

Compensation

• Minimum salary: €65,000 gross/year, with significant overpayment based on qualifications and experience
• Founding team equity package
• Higher compensation possible for freelancers (Austria or international)

Learning

• Direct collaboration with Miro (10+ years engineering in finance)
• Build product and engineering foundations from scratch, not maintain legacy code
