The Senior Engineer is responsible for applying specialist traffic engineering expertise to analyse and resolve traffic matters through high‑quality technical reporting, customer service, community engagement, and design services.
What you’ll be doing:
- Undertake, oversee, and provide solutions to matters relating to traffic management and transportation ensuring that applications and customer requests are dealt with in a timely and courteous manner.
- Undertake and oversee Local Area Traffic Management studies and other traffic studies including consultation with individuals, community groups and stakeholders.
- Evaluate and oversee the impact of development applications and consultants reports on transport, traffic, and parking. Attend meetings with developers and consultants to represent and negotiate Council’s position.
- Prepare funding applications and advocate funding for transport, traffic, and road safety.
- Investigate and improve pedestrian and bicycle safety and accessibility. Encourage walking and cycling as a safe alternative to car travel.
- Investigate and prepare reports for presentation at Executive, Council and Committee meetings and represent Council at meetings.
- Undertake and oversee the design, preparation of plans, specifications, estimates, tender and contract documents for various traffic infrastructure projects.
- Provide guidance and support to staff.
- Experience in project management, design and assessment of traffic engineering projects including specifications, estimating and tender documents.
- A high level of expertise in all facets of traffic engineering.
- Computer literacy, including the use of Computer Aided Design, Project Management, SIDRA and Engineering software.
- Demonstrated skills in managing time, setting priorities, and planning one’s own work and where appropriate that of others.
- Ability to set and achieve objectives in the most efficient way possible within the resources available and within budgetary requirements despite conflicting pressures, budgetary requirements and conflicting demands.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, influencing and negotiation, and customer service.
- Washington Accord accredited Bachelor of Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineers Registration in line with the Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019 or working towards.
- Current Driver’s Licence.
