Reporting to the Manager, Network & Telecom the Network Engineer supports the design, implementation, and management of Nutrien’s global network infrastructure. This role focuses on ensuring reliable and secure connectivity across enterprise and industrial environments while coordinating lifecycle management, licensing, and vendor relationships. The Network Engineer works closely with regional IT, Network Operations, and business teams to deliver network solutions, support daily operations, and contribute to ongoing improvements in performance, security, and scalability.
What You'll Do:
- Support and maintain enterprise network technologies to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing connectivity across global operations.
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and support of network solutions for new and existing environments.
- Manage purchasing, sparing, licensing, and lifecycle activities for network hardware and software assets.
- Partner with business units, regional IT, and Network Operations to prioritize work, align on timelines, and deliver effective network services.
- Lead or assist with on-site and remote implementations, ensuring smooth execution and minimal disruption.
- Provide escalation support to the Network Operations Center, troubleshooting and resolving complex network issues.
- Participate in proof-of-concept testing with vendors and cross-functional teams to evaluate new technologies.
- Plan and execute network components for large projects, including remote site deployments and upgrades.
- Maintain network security and ensure compliance with company policies and industry best practices.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, regional teams, and external partners.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
- 5+ years of experience supporting and maintaining large-scale enterprise networks.
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
- Knowledge of networking concepts with a strong theoretical or practical understanding of the subject.
- Strong understanding of enterprise and industrial network architectures, including LAN, WAN, wireless, and security frameworks.
- Familiarity with network protocols, routing, and switching concepts (e.g., BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VXLAN).
- Knowledge of Cisco technologies and platforms (NXOS, IOS XE/XR, Meraki) and related management tools.
- Understanding of network security principles, firewalls, VPNs, and identity-based access (ISE).
- Understanding of IT governance, change management, and lifecycle management practices.
- Familiarity with cloud networking concepts and integration with on-premises environments.
- Experience configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting enterprise network infrastructure across multiple technologies.
- Proficient with network monitoring and diagnostic tools such as SolarWinds, Wireshark, and Cisco Catalyst Center.
- Experienced in managing vendor relationships, licensing renewals, and maintenance contracts.
- Capable of leading technical resources and coordinating implementation activities across multiple sites.
- Strong documentation skills, including network diagrams, configuration standards, and operational procedures.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional IT and business teams to align network solutions with organizational needs.
- Ability to analyze complex network issues and identify effective, long-term solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business or technical requirements.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with distributed teams.
- Perform effectively under pressure and maintain professionalism during critical incidents.
- Ability to think strategically about network design, lifecycle management, and operational efficiency.
