We’re partnering with a market-leading Australian technology company powering critical alarm signalling and IoT connectivity across Australia and internationally.
Their platforms support over 300,000 connected devices and tens of thousands of active users. Reliability, uptime and real-world impact genuinely matter here.
They’re hiring a Data Centre Operations Engineer to join their Sydney-based operations team. This is a hands-on role focused on running, maintaining, and improving the company’s critical infrastructure, ensuring systems are secure, reliable, and always available.
This is about operational excellence, supporting mission-critical networks, and ensuring the technical backbone of the business can deliver 24/7.
What you’ll work on:
Infrastructure operations & management
Maintain and support enterprise-grade infrastructure across data centres, hybrid cloud, and on-premises systems
Monitor servers, storage, networking and connectivity for critical alarm signalling systems
Manage backup, patching, firmware updates, and high-availability infrastructure
Hybrid cloud & virtualization
Operate and support VMware / Hyper-V environments
Deploy, manage, and optimize virtual machines and clusters
Support hybrid environments integrating Azure or other cloud services with on-prem systems
Incident response & reliability
Respond to incidents, troubleshoot outages, and perform root cause analysis
Support high-availability environments with strict uptime SLAs
Implement monitoring, alerting, and reporting to maintain operational visibility
Process, automation & improvement
Implement and maintain automation (PowerShell, scripting, IaC) to reduce manual effort
Document systems, configurations, SOPs and disaster recovery plans
Contribute to continuous improvement of operations, processes, and compliance standards
Collaboration & support
Work closely with engineering, product, and IT teams to support infrastructure needs
Assist in planning upgrades, new deployments, and capacity expansion
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members
What we’re looking for:
Must-haves
Experience managing enterprise infrastructure (servers, storage, networking, virtualization)
Hands-on experience in data centre or hybrid environments
Strong understanding of Windows Server and Linux administration
Experience with VMware / Hyper-V and virtualization technologies
Monitoring, backup, and high-availability experience
Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and respond to incidents under pressure
Nice to have
Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) in hybrid setups
Networking experience (switching, routing, firewalls)
Experience with mission-critical or telco / IoT environments
Automation and scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines)
Knowledge of ITIL or formal operational processes
Technical environment
Servers: HPE, Dell, Blade / Rack infrastructure
Virtualization: VMware vSphere / Hyper-V, vCenter, ESXi
OS: Windows Server, Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS)
Networking: LAN/WAN, VLANs, VPN, firewalls
Cloud: Hybrid Azure / AWS integration
Monitoring & backup: Veeam, SCOM, SolarWinds, NetCrunch
