Join Permaconn - Where Connectivity Meets Culture!
Permaconn is a leading Australian innovator in secure communications and monitoring technology. Our solutions are trusted nationally and internationally for critical infrastructure, including Industrial Safety (OSPAT) and Fire Alarm Signalling & Monitoring. As part of our growing technology team, you’ll help develop software that directly impacts safety, compliance, and operational efficiency across a range of industries.
Role
This is a hands-on engineering role where your code will matter from day one.
You'll join our core engineering team working primarily on OSPAT — our Industrial Safety monitoring platform — which provides real-time worker safety tracking, alerting, and compliance reporting for industrial and commercial environments. You'll work across the full stack, from firmware and embedded devices through to cloud services, REST APIs, and the web dashboards that operators rely on in the field.
We're a small, focused team, which means you'll be involved in real decisions early, work closely with senior engineers, and see the direct impact of what you build.
We also believe in using the best tools available. Our team works with AI-assisted development (including Claude Code) as part of our standard engineering workflow — if you're curious about where modern software development is heading, you'll fit right in.
What You'll Work On
- Developing and maintaining software for OSPAT safety and monitoring systems
- Building and improving cloud-connected services, web dashboards, and mobile integrations
- Collaborating across hardware, cloud, mobile, and UI/UX teams on end-to-end features
- Writing clean, well-documented, and testable code across embedded and cloud environments
- Contributing to integration testing, deployment pipelines, and release processes
- Supporting compliance documentation for safety-critical applications
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency (required)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
- Proficiency in: C/C++, JavaScript/Typescript, SQL — or a strong foundation and eagerness to pick them up quickly
- Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows
- Genuine interest in IoT, embedded systems, or cloud-connected applications
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
- Strong bias toward action and delivering working solutions with little to no negative market/customer impacts over theory
- Ability to break down problems and deliver incremental solutions
- Experience in data pipelines, analytics, and reporting systems
- Understanding and competence of data visualisation tools
- Experience building or integrating API’s
- API reliability
- Ability to understand how your role impacts customer outcomes and product reputations/success
- Willingness to engage with support, field sales teams & customers to improve solutions
- Deliver features to product roadmap timelines
- Contribute to system reliability and uptime
- Support scalable deployments/solutions across multiple global sites
Nice to Have:
- Experience with MQTT, REST APIs, or cloud IoT platforms (Azure or AWS)
- Experience with full stack development, primarily with React and NodeJS
- Experience with Windows Native App development
- Linux administration or embedded Linux experience
- Exposure to microcontroller programming
- Understanding of networking protocols, telemetry, or safety-critical systems
What's In It For You
- Mentorship from day one — you'll work directly alongside experienced engineers, not be left to figure things out alone
- Work that matters — the systems you build protect real people in real environments
- Modern tooling — we invest in the tools that make engineers productive, including the latest AI-assisted development platforms
- International exposure — our products are deployed across four continents, with optional opportunities to be involved in international projects
- Competitive salary — package commensurate with experience, with clear paths for progression
