About Us
PowerUP Energy Technologies is a dynamic and innovative tech company based in Estonia, dedicated to tackling the global climate crisis by providing clean energy solutions through cutting-edge hydrogen technology. We are an international team of creative, collaborative, and practical experts, encouraged to think ‘out of the box’ when taking on big challenges.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Production Engineer to take a key role in the industrialization, manufacturability, and production optimization of our cutting-edge hydrogen generators and other state-of-the-art products. This position involves hands-on production engineering work, close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and active contribution to improving product quality, cost-efficiency, and scalability.
The role spans both in-house prototyping and small-scale production, as well as supporting outsourced manufacturing partners for higher-volume production. The Production Engineer will work closely with existing team members involved in production and engineering activities, contributing as part of a collaborative team while taking ownership of specific topics and initiatives.
You will play a central role in implementing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles, improving production processes, and ensuring that products are optimized for cost, quality, reliability, and efficient assembly. The role also includes contributing to production planning, scaling activities, and preparation of technical input for internal planning and external reporting (e.g., investor materials or facility-related planning).
The ideal candidate brings experience in production engineering or manufacturing environments, enjoys hands-on work, and takes a proactive and structured approach to solving practical production challenges, with a strong focus on quality, reliability, and long-term solutions in collaboration with engineering, quality, and external partners.
This is a full-time, onsite position in Tallinn, Estonia. The working language is English.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of product manufacturability and producibility across both in-house and outsourced production, working closely with existing team members.
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to existing and new products, driving improvements in BOM cost, assembly time, production efficiency, and scalability while maintaining quality and reliability.
- Actively contribute hands-on to prototyping and small-scale in-house production as part of the team, including assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and implementation of mechanical or process improvements.
- Contribute to production planning and scaling activities, including preparation of technical inputs for internal planning, facility setup or relocation, and external reporting (e.g., investor materials).
- Work closely with external manufacturing and assembly partners, supporting them in production setup, technical problem-solving, and continuous improvement activities.
- Collaborate closely with the Quality Engineer and other team members to ensure production processes meet quality standards, and jointly address nonconformities, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Contribute to identifying and implementing cost reduction opportunities, including BOM optimization, component selection, and process improvements.
- Improve assembly processes and workflows together with the team to reduce production time while maintaining product performance and durability.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including engineering, suppliers, and subcontractors, to support production and industrialization activities.
- Support the outsourcing of product assembly and manufacturing activities, including partner coordination, process implementation, and quality oversight.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of in-house production and prototyping processes, including workspace organization, tooling, and efficiency improvements.
- Create and maintain production and technical documentation, including BOMs, assembly instructions, and work instructions.
- Contribute to certification-related activities (e.g., UL or similar), including preparation of technical documentation and support for testing and compliance.
- Participate in supplier and vendor evaluation, onboarding, and ongoing cooperation.
- Support the sales team with technical input related to products, manufacturing, and installation when needed.
- Provide hands-on support and training to production and assembly staff to ensure efficient and consistent operations.
- Participate in technical project activities, including planning, documentation, and reporting.
Essential Skills/Experience/Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in production engineering, manufacturing, or industrialization.
- Strong understanding and practical application of Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
- Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and various manufacturing techniques.
- Experience working with both prototyping/small-scale production and outsourced manufacturing environments is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience in assembly, prototyping, troubleshooting, and process improvement.
- Experience working with quality processes and requirements, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and familiarity with certification and compliance standards.
- Ability to identify cost reduction opportunities and optimize BOM and production processes.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Good documentation and reporting skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
Advantageous Skills/Experience
