Role
Working directly for the Network Practice Lead, this is an integral role in the support of the Global data centre networks not only working on the day-to-day delivery of service but also participating in mission critical projects, network development and implementations. We put the customer at the heart of the service we provide so you must be an effective communicator, comfortable directly engaging with stakeholders and colleagues. You must also demonstrate an analytical and systematic approach to technical challenges.
A key aspect of the role will be implementing and maintaining new networking solutions, identifying improvements to the networks across multiple data centres, and delivering network related projects as part of multi-practice project teams.
You will be self-motivated and be able to work autonomously and within a team to achieve day to day objectives with significant results on project or operational deliverables, whilst also owning a variety of activities ensuring compliance with project milestones, KPI's and SLA's.
Responsibilities
As a senior network engineer at Ekco you will be:
- Providing maintenance and support for Ekco’s networks across multiple DCs.
- Performing investigations and taking ownership of operational incidents, problems or changes and preparing solutions to achieve resolution/fulfilment within agreed timescales.
- Actioning production support requests, as required, in a timely and effective manner, in accordance with agreed service levels.
- Producing documentation including system documentations.
- Providing networking support other teams within the business.
- Identifying continuous improvement opportunities.
- Liaising with vendors and suppliers for support escalation.
- Providing technical mentoring to junior engineers within the team.
- Participating in rota based, on-call support with the Global Networks team.
- Maintain network solutions across multiple vendors, technologies and datacentres.
- Acting as a peer reviewer for networking changes.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP) including troubleshooting and optimisation
- Experience with internet peering, BGP policies, and traffic engineering
- Familiarity with IP management and RIPE NCC processes (IPv4/IPv6, RPKI)
- Hands-on experience with network OS platforms (Dell OS10, SONiC, Cumulus Linux, Junos)
- Solid understanding of datacenter networking (leaf-spine, VXLAN EVPN, MPLS, VPNs)
- Experience managing firewalls, preferably FortiGate
- Strong troubleshooting skills in production/24×7 environments
