Our client – a fast-growing international crypto company Backpack– is entering the Latvian market! We are looking for a hands-on MLRO to help establish operations in Riga.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of something from day one – to build, shape, and grow the compliance function while being backed by a global team and product. If you thrive in fast-paced, startup-like environments and know your way around financial regulations, let’s talk.
Key Responsibilities:
- Run ongoing ML/TPF/ and Sanctions risk management: Keep the framework aligned with the latest risk profile, deficiencies, and legal/regulatory changes.
- Implement and oversee AML tooling: set up and continuously improve tools, including rules/scenarios calibration and alert-quality monitoring.
- Drafting and maintaining AML compliance documentation and policies.
- Oversee suspicious activity investigation and reporting: ensure timely identification, escalation, investigation, and submission of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to the FIU, including maintaining proper documentation and decision rationale.
- Review escalations (incl. onboarding cases), ensure risk scoring is applied correctly.
- Ensure quality assurance of AML/CTPF/Sanctions operational activities
- Provide day-to-day guidance to employees to ensure compliance with relevant AML/CTPF/Sanctions requirements and emerging risk trends.
- Develop and implement the AML/CTPF/Sanctions training framework.
- Support new product/service launches from AML perspective: assess ML/TPF/Sanctions risks prior to launch and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.
- Prepare regular reports to the Management Board on the AML/CTPF/Sanctions control system, risk profile, and resource adequacy. Escalate material issues when needed.
Your profile:
- 5+ years of experience in a compliance or regulatory operations role, ideally in a crypto or fintech company.
- Solid understanding of AML, KYC, Sanctions and regulatory frameworks in the EU.
- Fluency in English and Latvian (both written and spoken) is a must (English language is needed for communication with partners and colleagues abroad).
- Professional certification (e.g., CAMS, CGSS, or other advanced ACAMS/ICA certifications) is highly desirable.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-changing environment.
Company offer:
- The chance to join a global team and help launch a regulated crypto business in the EU.
- Full ownership of your role and room to grow with the company.
- Flexible work setup – fully remote within Latvia.
- Health insurance after the probation period.
