Overview

Profectus is seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced Java Developers to support current and upcoming Australian Government programs, with a strong focus on Canberra-based delivery. These roles will contribute to the design, development, and delivery of secure, high-performing applications that support critical government services used by millions of Australians. You will work within agile, multidisciplinary teams to build scalable, modern solutions across complex enterprise environments. These opportunities will suit developers who are comfortable operating in structured, highly governed environments where quality, security, and compliance are essential. You will play a key role in delivering robust digital platforms aligned to government standards and frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable back-end services using Java and Spring Boot
• Build and support modern, responsive front-end applications using contemporary frameworks such as Angular and Node.js
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code aligned to best practice and coding standards
• Perform technical analysis and contribute to solution design for complex systems
• Lead or contribute to full software development lifecycle activities including design, build, test, release, and support
• Support CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, and deployment processes
• Manage application releases, including production support and continuous improvement
• Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and web services
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including architects, testers, and product stakeholders
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior developers where required

Required Experience

• Demonstrated experience as a Java Developer within government or enterprise environments
• Strong hands-on experience with:
• Java, Spring Framework including Spring Boot, JPA, and JDBC
• RESTful APIs and web services
• SQL and relational databases such as DB2 or similar
• Experience with modern front-end technologies such as Angular and JavaScript frameworks
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, testing, and release management
• Experience with version control and CI/CD tools such as GitLab, Bamboo, or SVN
• Proven ability to solve complex technical problems and deliver high-quality solutions
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Desirable Experience

• Full-stack development capability across front-end and back-end technologies
• Experience with Node.js, NestJS, MongoDB, or API integration platforms
• Exposure to DevOps or DevSecOps practices
• Experience working in large-scale government digital programs
• Familiarity with secure coding practices and compliance-driven environments
• Experience mentoring or leading development teams

Security Requirements

• Must be an Australian Citizen
• Baseline Security Clearance required at minimum
• NV1 clearance highly preferred
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain NV1 clearance

Working Arrangements

• Canberra-based roles within secure government environments
• Most opportunities will require full-time onsite presence, particularly within secure or access-controlled facilities
• Limited hybrid arrangements may be available depending on agency and project requirements
• Engagements supporting long-term government and Defence capability programs
