Responsibilities
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty. The position is based in Brussels, Office for Europe. The Office for Europe is a liaison office for UN-Habitat’s relationship with European Institutions, in particular the European Commission, and with other organizations based in Brussels. The Brussels office is responsible for the implementation of the EU-funded project “Phase 3 of Urban2030 - Supporting the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals” that is managed by the Brussels office in collaboration with relevant departments of UN-Habitat Headquarters, in particular the Data and Analytics Unit, and which will be supported by the Team Assistant. The project provides the secretariat for joint UN-Habitat/European Commission expert group meetings at the technical level that touch upon indicators and data related to urban development and related Sustainable Development Goals. Themes of the expert group meetings may cover shrinking cities, brownfield development, urban equality indicators, and housing. Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Programme Management Officer (project manager), the incumbent will perform the following duties:
