The Role

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Operations team at Cohabs, working closely with the VP Engineering.

This is a hybrid role at the intersection of software engineering and operations, focused on building internal tools, automating workflows, and improving the reliability of our systems.

You will play a key role in transforming operational challenges into scalable technical solutions — designing scripts, services, and processes that improve efficiency across Finance, Community, and Property teams.

This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced environment where you will both build and operate, ensuring our systems run smoothly while continuously improving them.

Your Responsibilities

Build & Automate

• Design and develop internal tools, scripts, and low-code solutions to streamline operations
• Automate repetitive workflows and manual processes across teams
• Contribute to backend services and APIs supporting operational needs

Own Operational Systems

• Monitor, investigate, and resolve system issues with a strong engineering mindset
• Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term fixes (not just patches)
• Improve system reliability, observability, and performance

Bridge Ops & Engineering

• Work closely with Finance, Community, and Property teams to understand operational pain points
• Translate business needs into technical solutions
• Provide technical guidance and ensure proper usage of systems

Improve Processes

• Design and maintain operational procedures backed by technical solutions
• Document systems, tools, and workflows
• Continuously identify opportunities for optimization and scalability

What We’re Looking For

Technical Skills

• Strong experience with Node.js / TypeScript
• Solid understanding of SQL and data modeling
• Experience with APIs and system integrations
• Ability to write scripts and build tools to solve real operational problems
• Experience leveraging AI tools and APIs (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic) to automate workflows, enhance debugging, or build internal assistants

Engineering Mindset

• Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on root cause analysis
• Ability to move from debugging → fixing → improving systems
• Interest in using AI to augment engineering and operations workflows (automation, insights, copilots, etc.)

Bonus Points

• Experience with Stripe / payments systems
• Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS) and distributed systems
• Experience building internal tools or working in Ops-heavy environments
