ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the GM – Events & Projects, the Event Manager plays a pivotal role in bringing to life premium match day and major non-match day events for the Melbourne Football Club and working closely with a passionate and high-performing Events team. From concept to execution, you’ll help deliver standout experiences that engage fans, partners, and stakeholders alike.


KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY


Reporting directly to the General Manger – Events & Projects, the key areas of responsibilities will include:


Strategy & Innovation

  • Collaborate with the GM – Events and Projects to develop new products and initiatives
  • Support the development and execution of the club’s event strategy aligned with commercial, brand, and membership goals
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the event portfolio to drive fan engagement, revenue, and brand impact
  • Develop innovative ideas to grow the supporter base and reach new audiences.

Event Planning & Delivery

  • Lead the planning and delivery of President’s Functions, major club events, and Jim Stynes Foundation events
  • Manage all event logistics, including production, catering, entertainment, venues, theming, and run sheets
  • Ensure events are delivered on time and within budget, with strong cost control
  • Support additional events (e.g. Inner Sanctum, sponsor events, AFLW games) as required

Commercial Partnerships

  • Collaborate with the partnerships team to integrate sponsors into events
  • Identify opportunities to generate additional revenue through the event program

Stakeholder Management

  • Lead stakeholder briefings and manage VIP relationships at major events
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, board members, executives, and partners

Risk & Reporting

  • Deliver post-event reports covering attendance, financials, and feedback
  • Use insights to improve future events and fan experience
  • Ensure compliance with risk, safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Develop contingency and risk management plans

Leadership

  • Lead and support event team members
  • Oversee team portfolios, providing direction and guidance


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE


You’re an experienced events professional with a proven ability to deliver engaging, fan-focused experiences from concept through to execution. Commercially savvy, you understand how to manage budgets effectively while maximising impact and identifying opportunities for growth.


You’re someone who is confident in working with VIP stakeholders and bring a polished, professional approach to every interaction. A strong communicator and natural collaborator, you thrive in team environments while also being comfortable taking ownership and working autonomously on key projects.


You’re highly organised and detail-oriented, you can juggle multiple priorities without compromising quality, and you approach every challenge with initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness. You’re confident using CRM systems to support event delivery and stakeholder engagement, and you bring leadership experience that helps guide and support those around you. Above all, you’re friendly, energetic, and positive, with a genuine can-do attitude that contributes to a high-performing, supportive workplace culture.


You are also passionate about the AFL and understand the game and its fans. It is essential you are available to work outside of business hours including match days and weekends.
