We are hiring a CTO for a well-established B2B software company operating in a regulated industry. The company develops a core platform that supports complex operational workflows and plays a central role in its clients’ day-to-day business.
The product has been on the market for many years and is widely used by a stable customer base. It combines deep domain expertise with practical functionality and is considered a trusted solution in its niche. Backed by an international investment group, the company is entering a new phase of growth.
The focus now is on evolving both the product and the engineering organization: improving scalability, introducing more structured practices, and gradually adopting modern technologies, including AI-driven workflows.
This is a high-impact role for a leader who wants to shape both the technical direction and the way engineering operates within an established, mission-critical product.

Responsibilities
- Act as the first senior-level technical leader shaping long-term engineering direction
- Define and execute a pragmatic modernization strategy (not a full rebuild)
- Lead the transition from legacy systems to a more scalable architecture
- Introduce best practices in system design, reliability, observability, and automation
- Implement AI-assisted development workflows and code generation approaches
- Improve predictability, transparency, and delivery quality
- Deliver a clear and realistic modernization roadmap in the first months
- Align technical decisions with business impact and ROI
- Build trust within a long-tenured engineering team and lead them through change
- Manage resistance and gradually evolve the team’s ways of working
- Clarify roles and help shape a scalable engineering organization
- Proven experience as a CTO, Head of Engineering, or similar senior technical leader
- Track record of leading successful migration from legacy systems to modern tech stacks
- Experience working with mature products (not only greenfield)
- Strong background in system architecture, backend/platform development, and databases
- Experience with distributed systems and scalable architectures
- Practical understanding of modern AI tools and interest in AI-driven development
- Strong leadership skills and ability to lead senior, experienced engineers
- High emotional intelligence and ability to build trust
- Ability to drive change in a structured and pragmatic way
- Strong business mindset, with focus on impact, risk, and ROI
- Experience in regulated industries (e.g. energy, utilities, fintech) is a strong plus
- Familiarity with PHP/Laravel, .NET/C#, and Microsoft SQL is a strong plus
