An Asset Integrity Engineer in the Oil & Gas industry is responsible for ensuring that all production, processing, and storage assets operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with industry standards throughout their lifecycle. The role involves maintaining the integrity of critical equipment such as pressure vessels, pipelines, flowlines, storage tanks, heat exchangers, and process piping by developing and implementing inspection and maintenance programs. The engineer evaluates equipment condition through inspection data, non-destructive testing (NDT), corrosion monitoring, and risk-based inspection (RBI) methodologies to identify potential degradation mechanisms such as corrosion, erosion, fatigue, cracking, or high-temperature damage. In OPF or midstream environments, the engineer focuses on maintaining the integrity of process units such as distillation columns, reactors, heaters, and piping systems while identifying refinery-specific damage mechanisms like sulfidation, hydrogen attack, creep, and stress corrosion cracking. The Asset Integrity Engineer also performs fitness-for-service assessments to determine the remaining life of equipment, participates in turnaround planning and inspection scope development, investigates equipment failures through root cause analysis, and supports management of change reviews to ensure modifications do not compromise asset safety. Additionally, the role involves maintaining integrity databases, analyzing equipment performance trends, recommending repair or replacement strategies, and ensuring compliance with international standards such as API, ASME, and ISO, with the overall objective of minimizing risk, preventing loss of containment, extending asset life, and ensuring safe and efficient plant operation.
