Department Overview

Innovation is the oxygen of our company, and in 2023, we invested more than US$850 million in research and development (R&D). We’re now opening a new Research & Development Centre in Cork, Ireland focused on designing software for the company’s comprehensive land mobile radio (LMR) portfolio, with plans for expansion across other technologies in the future.

Job Description

We are seeking a Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain mission-critical Android applications supporting public-safety communication, situational awareness, and operational data systems. These applications are used by emergency responders and must operate reliably in demanding field environments with intermittent connectivity, device integrations, and high availability requirements.

The successful candidate will collaborate with product management, UI/UX, backend platform teams, and device integration teams to deliver secure, resilient, and performance-optimized applications, while driving engineering excellence, architectural consistency, and technical mentorship across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and services.
  • Contribute to reliable, scalable, and maintainable system architectures.
  • Implement features aligned with product and technical requirements.
  • Integrate with backend services, APIs, and external systems.
  • Write clean, well-structured, and testable code following engineering best practices.
  • Contribute to unit, integration, and automated testing efforts.
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
  • Support CI/CD processes and release activities.
  • Troubleshoot issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement effective fixes.
  • Collaborate effectively within Agile/Scrum teams to deliver incremental value

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Kotlin, Java, or similar).
  • Experience working with APIs, data handling, and integration patterns.
  • Understanding of software architecture principles and design patterns.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills within cross-functional teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience developing enterprise, reliability-focused, or mission-critical systems. Experience with mobile, backend, or distributed systems development.
  • Familiarity with modern development frameworks and architectural patterns. Experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Exposure to secure coding practices and data protection principles. Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
