The Luxembourg AI Factory (L-AIF) is part of a European wide initiative (EuroHPC consortium) to enhance the use of high-performance computing (HPCs) in Europe and facilitate the adoption of AI. By magnifying the potential of AI, L-AIF's objective is to support businesses in adopting and implementing AI Solutions tailored to their maturity and needs. This includes access to the Luxembourg HPC – MeluXina-AI – to tailor AI models to small and medium enterprises (SMEs); discovery, access, and brokerage of data for AI model training; as well as compliance checks via its AI and regulatory Sandboxes. In short, L-AIF accompanies SMEs along their journey towards AI innovation. As a Consortium partner, LNDS is participating in this project through its expertise in data management and technical deployment of business solutions. We are therefore looking for a Software Engineer to help us make the L-AIF the one-stop-shop for AI adoption in Luxembourg and promote the country as a trustworthy AI hub in Europe. https://www.aifactory.lu/
Purpose of the job/project
As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to the implementation and evolution of applications and platform services and support the integration of new solutions with LNDS’s existing data-centric infrastructures. You will be a key actor of continuous improvement and innovation within the organisation, focusing on:
- Automating parts of the software development lifecycle
- Improving internal data flows and platform capabilities
- Supporting technical environments used for data processing, analytics, and AI-related experimentation
You will be part of the Technology team, working in close collaboration with data specialists, AI experts, and governance teams across different projects and contribute to high-impact European initiatives in AI, data governance, and digital public infrastructure.
What you will do
- Develop, deliver and maintain quality software.
- Contribute to the implementation and integration of applications with existing data-centric infrastructures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation, automating parts of the software development process, internal data flows, and internal tooling.
- Collaborate within the agile software development team, delivering and maintaining quality software as required by the Platform.
- Actively participate in the entire software lifecycle process, including requirements gathering, user story creation, development, continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipeline setup, testing, and maintenance.
- Follow and apply good software engineering practices, including coding standards, testing, and documentation
- Incorporate and promote security and privacy by design practices into your work.
- Contribute to issue tracking, debugging, and support activities together with the team.
- Write and maintain technical documentation for the solutions you contribute to
- Continuously learn and stay up to date with evolving software, data, and AI technologies
Who you are
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field
- 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in software development
- Experience in data-related or research-oriented environments is considered an asset
Technical competencies
- Experience with Python or Node.js. Other languages are considered a plus
- Good knowledge of backend development (APIs, services, integrations)
- Frontend experience with React and Next.js is considered an asset
- Working knowledge of containerisation technologies (Docker, Podman)
- Familiarity with authentication and identity protocols such as OIDC, SAML, LDAP/AD, and solutions like Keycloak
- Basic to good knowledge of SQL and NoSQL technologies
- Familiarity with cloud ecosystems
- Comfortable working in Linux and git-based environments
