As a Software Engineer (m/f/d) in our Bucharest office, you will be a key part of the Data Core Team, building and evolving the central platform for Product and Customer data across the Tchibo system landscape. The Data Core provides reliable, scalable, and reusable data foundations that enable teams across the organization to build consistent and high-quality digital experiences.
In detail:
- Data Core Engineering: Design, build, and evolve Data Core services and data products that provide a reliable and scalable foundation for Product and Customer data.
- Event-Driven Systems: Develop and operate event-driven, asynchronous services using REST and Pub/Sub, with a strong
- focus on correctness, reliability, and near real-time data processing.
- Platform & Cloud Engineering: Build highly available and scalable services on Google Cloud Platform, contributing to platform
- standards around deployment, observability, security, and cost efficiency.
- Code Quality & Reliability: Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to high engineering standards through testing, code
- reviews, and continuous improvement.
- Collaboration: Work closely with architects, platform teams, and domain teams to enable consistent and reusable data
- products across the organization.
- Learning & Improvement: Continuously develop your skills and help evolve the Data Core platform, tooling, and best practices.
Qualifications:
- A degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, or a comparable field.
- 5+ years of experience in backend or platform-oriented software development, preferably in data-intensive or distributed systems.
- Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages, preferably Kotlin or Java.
- Solid understanding of event-driven architectures, asynchronous communication, and eventual consistency.
- Experience with REST APIs, message-based systems, and schema-based integration.
- Familiarity with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code, e.g. Terraform.
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services (Pub/Sub, Bigtable, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Cloud Run
- etc)
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- A collaborative team player comfortable working in agile environments (SCRUM / KANBAN).
Nice to have:
- Experience building data platforms or data products (event sourcing, streaming, analytics, or integration platforms).
- Experience with observability tooling (metrics, logging, tracing).
- Understanding of schema governance, data contracts, or data catalogs.
- Exposure to security and IAM concepts in cloud environments.
