Backend Engineer (Java & Kotlin -
Supply Chain)
Location & working arrangement
We offer hybrid working, with occasional presence at one of our Holland & Barrett offices in
London or Nuneaton for team collaboration, key meetings and events (typically once per
quarter).
Intro
We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to join our supply chain technology team at Holland &
Barrett.
You’ll play a key role in building and improving the systems that keep our products moving
— from warehouses to customers — helping more people access health and wellness every
day.
This is a great opportunity to grow your technical skills, work on meaningful problems and
collaborate with experienced engineers in a supportive, forward-thinking environment.
What you’ll be doing
Contribute to the design and development of backend systems within our supply chain
domain
Build reliable, high-quality services that support logistics, stock management and
fulfilment
Work closely with product, operations and engineering teams to deliver valuable
solutions
Take ownership of features and improvements from idea through to delivery
Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to team standards and best practices
Support system performance, reliability and ongoing improvements
Learn from others and actively contribute to a collaborative team environment
What you’ll bring
Experience in software development using Java, Kotlin or similar languages
Experience working with frameworks such as Spring Boot, Spring WebFlux or Project
Reactor
Some experience or exposure to event streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka
Experience working with databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, DynamoDB or similar)
Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS
Familiarity with modern development tools (e.g. Git, Maven, Docker, CI/CD pipelines)
Understanding of APIs and distributed systems concepts
Experience with testing practices and tools (e.g. unit testing, TDD)
A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn and grow
