Not every senior role is about owning a single service or squad.

I’m currently partnering with a product led organisation that’s at an interesting point ; multiple engineering teams, solid foundations, but now facing the classic challenge of scale:

👉 How do you evolve systems without creating fragmentation?

👉 How do you improve reliability without slowing delivery?

👉 How do you help teams make better technical decisions without centralising everything?

They’re looking for someone who naturally operates across those boundaries.

This isn’t a pure “architect” role, and it’s not just hands on delivery either. It sits somewhere in the middle ; working with teams to shape solutions, stepping into complex problems, and helping lift the overall quality of engineering output.

You’d likely spend your time:

– Collaborating with senior engineers across different domains

– Shaping how services interact and evolve over time

– Identifying and reducing technical risk in active projects

– Introducing patterns that make systems easier to scale and maintain

– Occasionally getting hands-on where things need untangling

The environment is modern (cloud-first, distributed systems, mix of languages), but they’re more interested in how you think than what specific tools you’ve used.

People who tend to do well here usually:

• Have operated in systems with real scale/complexity

• Are comfortable influencing without formal authority

• Know when to go deep technically vs when to guide others

• Care about long-term system health, not just immediate delivery
