Senior Java Developer

For our client active in the insurance sector, we're looking for a Senior Java Developer to join them on a freelance mission (6 months-long + possibility for extension) in Brussels.

Key Responsibilities

Core Development & Delivery

• Design & Development: Conceptualize, build, and adapt Java-based applications in alignment with functional and business requirements.
• Analysis & Translation: Interpret complex business and functional analyses, translating them into scalable software architecture and high-quality code.
• Testing & Quality: Implement Test-Driven Development (TDD) and conduct rigorous testing within an Agile integrated environment.
• Documentation: Maintain comprehensive software documentation and provide clear reports on technical progress and potential challenges.
• Continuous Improvement: Evaluate the impact of proposed changes on existing modules and proactively suggest optimal technical solutions.

Quality Assurance & Team Leadership

• QA Management: Develop detailed test scenarios, document test results, resolve issues, and perform final solution validation.
• Mentorship: Foster team growth by coaching and training colleagues, and actively contribute to the adoption of software development best practices.
• Refinement: Participate in "lessons learned" sessions to drive continuous evolution and improvements in development processes.

Technical Expertise

• Language & Tech Stack: Expert proficiency in Java, MQ, IIB (ACE), and Web Services.
• Methodology: Strong background in Agile and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).
• Tools & Environment: Proficient with JIRA, SVN, and SPARX (or equivalent). Extensive experience within the IBM environment is essential.
• Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and provide expert-level coaching to team members.

Education & Experience

• A Master’s Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent professional experience).
• Advanced technical coursework and a commitment to continued professional development.
• Leadership experience commensurate with 5+ years of professional practice.

Language Requirements

• French and Dutch: Native proficiency in one national language and a high level of proficiency in the second.
• English: Working knowledge is considered a significant asset.

Mission Details

• Start Date: As soon as possible.
• Working Regime: Full-time; a minimum of 2 days per week of on-site presence is mandatory.
