DevOps Engineer - Ecommerce

📝 Contractor Role. This is a freelance/contractor position, so you’ll be responsible for managing your own taxes and invoicing.

🌍 Fully Remote.

We are looking for a highly skilled DevOps Engineer to manage, optimize, and secure our WooCommerce-based e-commerce platform. You will be the backbone of our technical operations, ensuring that our site is lightning-fast, 100% reachable, and secure from external threats.

Key Responsibilities

• Server Management: Maintain and optimize our PHP-based hosting environment via cPanel and Linux command line.
• Database Performance: Monitor and tune MySQL/MariaDB for high-traffic WooCommerce transactions.
• Infrastructure & DNS: Manage domain records, SSL certificates, and CDN configurations (e.g., Cloudflare) to ensure global availability.
• Site Reliability: Troubleshoot site crashes, slow load times, and integration errors between WordPress and third-party APIs.
• Communication: Coordinate with our development team and stakeholders.
• English (written and verbal) is essential for clear documentation and reporting.

Technical Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in a similar position.
• PHP Hosting & cPanel: Deep expertise in managing WHM/cPanel environments and PHP-FPM configurations.
• Linux Administration: Proficiency in terminal-based management (SSH, Bash scripting, permissions).
• MySQL Expert: Experience with database optimization, backups, and query troubleshooting.
• Networking & DNS: Solid understanding of A records, CNAMEs, MX records, and propagation issues.
• WordPress/WooCommerce Internals: Familiarity with how WordPress interacts with the server (wp-config, .htaccess, cron jobs).

Preferred Skills

• CI/CD Pipelines: Experience setting up automated deployments (Jenkins, Github Actions or similar tools) move code from staging to production seamlessly.
• DevSecOps: A "security-first" mindset. Experience with WAFs, malware scanning, and server hardening.
• Monitoring Tools: Experience with New Relic, Datadog, or similar tools to track site performance.
