The L2 AWS Cloud Engineer is responsible for the proactive management,
troubleshooting, and optimization of enterprise-scale AWS environments. You will act
as a primary technical escalation point for critical incidents, manage complex CI/CD
deployments, and ensure that client infrastructures are secure, cost-effective, and
performant. This role requires a blend of deep technical AWS knowledge, "sysops"
mindset, and the ability to communicate effectively with enterprise stakeholders.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Incident & Problem Management
- Enterprise Troubleshooting: Serve as the L2 escalation point for complex
- infrastructure issues (e.g., networking bottlenecks, RDS performance
- degradation, or IAM permission conflicts).
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Lead the investigation into recurring incidents to
- identify underlying issues and implement permanent fixes.
- SLA Compliance: Ensure all incidents and service requests are resolved
- within the agreed-upon Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- On-Call Support: Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to handle high-priority
- (P1/P2) enterprise production outages.
2. Deployment & Change Management
- CI/CD Pipeline Management: Manage and troubleshoot deployment pipelines
- using tools like AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, or GitLab CI/CD.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Maintain and update infrastructure using
- Terraform or CloudFormation to ensure environment consistency.
- Patching & Upgrades: Plan and execute OS-level patching (Linux/Windows)
- and AWS resource upgrades (e.g., RDS minor version upgrades) with minimal
- downtime.
3. Managed Services Operations
- Monitoring & Observability: Configure and manage CloudWatch dashboards,
- alarms, and logs. Fine-tune alerts to reduce "alert fatigue" while maintaining
- 100% visibility.
- Cost Optimization: Regularly review Trusted Advisor and Cost Explorer to
- recommend and implement rightsizing, Reserved Instances (RIs), or Savings
- Plans.
- Security & Compliance: Implement and audit security groups, NACLs, and
- IAM policies. Ensure environments align with Well-Architected Framework
- standards.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
- AWS Core Services: Deep expertise in EC2, S3, VPC (VPN/Direct Connect),
- RDS, Lambda, Route 53, and ELB.
- Automation/IaC: Strong proficiency in Terraform (preferred) or
- CloudFormation.
- Scripting: Hands-on experience with Python or Bash for task automation.
- OS Administration: Strong Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) and Windows Server
- administration/troubleshooting skills.
- Networking: Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, SSL/TLS, and Load Balancing
- patterns.
- Containers: Experience managing Amazon ECS or EKS (Kubernetes) is a major plus.
Preferred Certifications
- AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate (Required)
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (Highly Desirable)
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional (A plus)
