AI Engineer

As an experienced AI Engineer, you harness the power of artificial intelligence to prepare Colruyt Group for the future. You implement advanced (Agentic) GenAI solutions for our various retail brands. The result of your work: smarter, more personalized services for our customers and a more efficient internal organization.

What will you do?

• Within the IT division Data & Analytics, you work in a multidisciplinary team consisting of data scientists, data science engineers, data analysts, BI engineers, … Together, you build AI‑driven solutions for various Colruyt Group brands such as Okay, Bike Republic, Bio-Planet or Jims. Within the knowledge group, experiences and insights are shared, allowing you to continuously learn in a fast‑evolving field.
• As an AI Engineer, you collaborate with complementary colleagues on a wide range of projects, working with the latest AI techniques and technologies (e.g., Azure AI Foundry, LangChain, vector databases, fine‑tuning LLMs). Colruyt Group is fully investing in AI: we focus strongly on Generative AI, Agentic AI and end‑to‑end AI pipelines. You are also encouraged to explore new methods and frameworks—together with the team—to help strengthen the organization’s AI maturity.
• The team focuses on our internal customers, the business partners. We translate their needs into concrete AI solutions, built in multidisciplinary teams. This results in close collaboration with other IT teams and the business, where you act as the bridge between the technical possibilities of AI and the practical needs on the work floor.
• We are responsible for identifying new AI opportunities. We proactively search for applications where AI creates tangible added value for our partners—think intelligent assistants, automated workflows or RAG solutions based on our rich data. We don’t just look internally: we also closely monitor external trends in GenAI, Agentic AI and the broader AI market.
• Colruyt Group consists of many different entities, which creates enormous diversity in both data and use cases. The AI projects you contribute to range from intelligent search and recommendation systems to automated document and language processing, to autonomous AI agents that support complex operational processes—at scale.

You work in Halle and can work from home up to two days per week.

Your Profile

• Experience – You hold a master’s degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, data science or a related field, and you have at least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in AI development.
• Knowledge of AI & GenAI – You have strong knowledge of machine learning, large language models and generative AI. You are familiar with building AI applications in Python and have experience with frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex or similar. You understand Agentic AI patterns.
• Cloud & tooling – You have experience with Azure (Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Azure ML, …) and are familiar with deploying and managing AI solutions in a cloud environment.
• Analytical ability – You can translate complex AI solutions into concrete business value and communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Language skills – You have excellent command of English and a good knowledge of Dutch.

Wat doe je concreet?

• In de IT divisie Data & Analytics werk je in een multidisciplinair team bestaande uit data scientists, data science engineers, data analysten, BI engineers, … Samen bouwen jullie AI-gedreven oplossingen voor de verschillende Colruyt Group merken, zoals Colruyt Laagste Prijs, Okay, Bike-Republic of Jims. In de kennisgroep worden ervaringen en inzichten uitgewisseld. Op deze manier blijf je continu bijleren in een snel evoluerend vakgebied.
• Als AI Engineer werk je samen met complementaire collega's aan een brede waaier van projecten waarbij je in aanraking komt met de nieuwste AI-technieken en -technologieën (bv: Azure AI Foundry, LangChain, vector databases, fine-tuning van LLMs). Colruyt Group investeert volop in AI: we zetten sterk in op Generative AI, Agentic AI en end-to-end AI-pipelines. We moedigen je ook aan om zelf, in overleg met het team, nieuwe methoden en frameworks te verkennen en zo de AI-maturiteit van de groep te versterken.
• Het team focust op onze interne klanten, de business-partners. We vertalen hun noden in concrete AI-oplossingen die we bouwen in multidisciplinaire teams. Dat resulteert in een directe en nauwe samenwerking met andere IT-teams en business, waarbij jij de brug vormt tussen de technische mogelijkheden van AI en de praktische noden op de werkvloer.
• We zijn verantwoordelijk voor de identificatie van nieuwe AI-opportuniteiten. We gaan proactief op zoek naar toepassingen waarbij AI een aantoonbare meerwaarde creëert voor onze partners. Denk aan intelligente assistenten, geautomatiseerde workflows of RAG-toepassingen op onze rijke data. Daarbij kijken we uiteraard niet alleen intern, maar volgen we ook de externe trends op het vlak van GenAI, Agentic AI en de bredere AI-markt nauwgezet op.
• Colruyt Group bestaat uit veel verschillende entiteiten. Dat zorgt voor een enorme variatie en hoeveelheid aan data én use cases. De AI-projecten waar je aan meewerkt gaan van intelligente zoek- en aanbevelingssystemen over geautomatiseerde document- en taalverwerking tot autonome AI-agenten die complexe operationele processen ondersteunen, en dit alles op schaal.

Je werkt in Halle en kan tot 2 dagen per week thuiswerken.

Jouw profiel:

• Ervaring – Je behaalde een master in computerwetenschappen, artificiële intelligentie, data science, of een gerelateerde richting. Je hebt minstens 3 tot 5 jaar relevante ervaring in AI-ontwikkeling.
• Kennis van AI & GenAI – Je hebt een sterke kennis van machine learning, large language models en generatieve AI. Je bent vertrouwd met het bouwen van AI-toepassingen in Python en hebt ervaring met frameworks zoals LangChain, LlamaIndex of vergelijkbaar. Je hebt kennis van Agentic AI-patronen.
• Cloud & tooling – Je hebt ervaring met Azure (Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Azure ML, …) en bent vertrouwd met het deployen en beheren van AI-oplossingen in een cloudplatform.
• Analytisch vermogen – Je slaagt erin om complexe AI-oplossingen te vertalen naar concrete businesswaarde en kan die helder en duidelijk communiceren naar zowel technische als niet-technische stakeholders.
• Talenkennis – Je hebt een uitstekende kennis van het Engels en een goede kennis van het Nederlands.
