International Student Project - Volunteer Full Stack Developer

Role Description

This is a volunteer remote role for a Full Stack Developer joining our 10+ international developers contributing to the International Student Project at TugOnn Schweiz. Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with a diverse and globally distributed team of students to develop and enhance the TugOnn platform. Responsibilities include working on front-end and back-end development, ensuring the platform’s functionality and usability, and troubleshooting software issues. The role offers the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to a platform designed for social impact.

We have finalized our technical stack and want to ensure it aligns with your expertise. Our project is built on a Node.js/React architecture with a focus on real-time features.

GitHub is our lifeblood in this project.

Specifically, we are looking for experience with:

Frontend: React.js, Tailwind CSS, and state management (Zustand or React Query).

Backend & Real-time: REST APIs with Node.js/Express and real-time communication via Socket.io.

Database & Storage: MongoDB (Mongoose) and media handling via Cloudinary or AWS S3.

Security: JWT authentication and input validation (e.g., Zod or Joi).

Tools: Proficiency with GitHub and Postman.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in the above mentioned stacks
• Understanding of Full-Stack Development and Software Development practices
• Ability to work collaboratively on project development and contribute creative problem-solving solutions
• Excellent organizational, communication, and team collaboration skills
• A demonstrated passion for community engagement and social innovation is highly beneficial
• Prior experience contributing to volunteer or student projects is a bonus
