The Role

We are currently supporting our client in the search for an Associate Research Scientist to join their Solar Development team. This role will support ongoing research and development activities aimed at improving technology performance and enabling scale-up into a commercially viable product.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and data collection activities related to product performance and stability.
  • Support senior scientists in larger development programmes.
  • Take technical ownership of smaller development projects where appropriate.
  • Analyse experimental data and present findings in internal meetings.
  • Review relevant scientific literature to support technical development.
  • Assist in documenting and protecting company intellectual property and technical know-how.
  • Prepare and implement relevant health and safety documentation (e.g., COSHH and risk assessments).

Training and support will be provided as part of the onboarding process.


Candidate Profile

  • Degree in chemistry, physics, materials science, electronic engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge or experience in photovoltaics, optoelectronics, photonics, or energy materials (e.g., perovskites) would be advantageous.
  • At least one year of experience working in a laboratory environment, ideally involving chemical handling and electronic test equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate experimental records.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear technical reports.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced research and development environment with changing priorities.
  • Right to work in the UK is required, as visa sponsorship is not available.
  • Ability to travel to the site during operational hours; a clean UK driving licence would be beneficial.
