One of our Clients is seeking to engage candidates for the below roles.


Role: Lead Application Architect - (EL2 Level)

Length of contract: 15 months

Contract extensions: 24 months extension

Clearance: Baseline Security Clearance

Location: Canberra (Hybrid)

Key duties and responsibilities

Key duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic architecture leadership across digital delivery and systems sustainment activities.
  • Lead and coordinate system, solution, and business architects to ensure consistent design practices.
  • Define, maintain, and enforce architecture principles, standards, and guardrails.
  • Provide architecture oversight and assurance for programs, projects, and major system changes.
  • Chair or contribute to architecture and design governance forums as required.
  • Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture and can be integrated into the broader departmental environment.
  • Identify and manage architectural risks, technical debt, and long‑term sustainability issues.
  • Advise senior leaders on technology options, trade‑offs, risks, and impacts.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment across initiatives and agencies.
  • Support capability uplift and mentoring of architecture and technical staff.
  • Facilitate and drive the implementation of the department’s Digital Strategy.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Extensive experience providing architecture leadership across complex digital environments.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise, solution, and system architecture, including integration and cloud-based solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience defining and applying architecture principles, standards, and governance.
  • Proven ability to provide clear, trusted advice to senior executives and governance bodies.
  • Experience balancing strategic objectives with delivery and operational constraints.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills across technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Ability to assess technology options and manage architectural risk over the full system lifecycle.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of clear architecture artefacts and briefings.
  • Deep understanding of the Australian border regulatory processes, particularly biosecurity
