Senior Backend Engineer (Database Integration)

Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role based in the Netherlands or Germany. The Senior Backend Engineer (Database Integration) will design, develop, and maintain back-end systems with a focus on seamless database integration. You will be responsible for optimizing database interactions in application code and SQL databases. You will collaborate with a cross-functional team to deliver innovative solutions that meet our clients' needs. The role also involves contributing to the architecture and ensuring the security and scalability of the application infrastructure.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend systems using JavaScript (TypeScript) and Python.
• Design, implement, optimize and test database interactions.
• Write clean, efficient, and modular code adhering to best practices and coding standards.
• Optimize performance and ensure scalability.
• Own initiatives centered on improving performance and reliability in database usage.
• Mentor other developer on database performance improvement, schema design and best practices.
• Conduct thorough testing and debugging to identify and resolve issues.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Extensive knowledge in the PostgreSQL ecosystem, including schema design, best practices, tools, libraries (such as pg_cron, pgvector, etc.) and performance tuning.
• Proficiency in Typescript (JavaScript) / Python programming language.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills and proficient in english

Optional Skills

• Experience in Azure
• Experience with OpenTelemetry and monitoring (Grafana and Sentry)
• Familiarity with GraphQL and its implementation (Apollo, Relay, etc.).

Other Details

• Full-time employee (40 hours/week).
• Reports to Head of Application Development.
• Located preferably in Amsterdam (Netherlands) but willing to be flexible (EU) and can accommodate agile work environments.
• Compensation depending on qualifications and experience.
