Python Developer

About the Role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join a dynamic and multicultural team working on a large-scale Personal Finance Management (PFM) product. This product helps users gain insights into their spending behaviour by categorising transactions and providing visibility into recurring costs such as subscriptions.

You will contribute to building and maintaining APIs that power a mobile banking experience used by ~1 million users monthly.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend APIs
• Contribute to features such as:
• Transaction categorisation
• Spending insights and budgeting
• Subscription and fixed cost tracking
• Collaborate closely with:
• Frontend teams building the mobile app experience
• Internal teams consuming enterprise APIs
• External fintech partners
• Work in a complex, highly integrated environment with multiple stakeholders
• Continuously challenge and improve existing solutions and ways of working

Technical Environment

• Backend stack:
• Python (±70%) – FastAPI, Azure Functions
• Java (±30%) – Spring Boot
• Architecture:
• Event-driven systems
• Messaging via Kafka and Azure Service Bus
• Cloud & Infrastructure:
• Azure Cloud
• Azure Functions, Web Apps, Docker containers

Your Profile

Must-have

• Minimum 5 years of experience with Java and/or Python
• Strong experience building APIs (Python and/or Java Spring)
• Willingness to work with Python (majority of the codebase)
• Experience working in complex environments with multiple integrations
• Strong critical thinking mindset – proactive, improvement-driven

Nice to have

• Experience with Python FastAPI
• Experience or knowledge of Azure Cloud
