Job Title: L2 Backup Engineer – Veeam & Commvault

Experience

3–8 years in backup, storage, and data protection technologies

Role Summary

The L2 Backup Engineer is responsible for supporting and managing enterprise backup environments using Veeam and Commvault. The role includes handling L2 incidents, troubleshooting backup and restore issues, ensuring data availability, and supporting disaster recovery processes across on-prem and cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

Provide L2 support for backup incidents, service requests, and escalations from L1 teams
Monitor and manage daily backup jobs across Veeam and Commvault platforms
Troubleshoot backup failures, job errors, performance issues, and restore failures
Perform backup and restore operations for virtual machines, databases, and file systems
Manage backup policies, schedules, retention, and replication configurations
Support Disaster Recovery (DR) drills and ensure adherence to RPO/RTO objectives
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventive measures
Perform health checks, patching, and upgrades of backup infrastructure
Coordinate with L3 teams and vendors for major incidents and problem management
Maintain SOPs, runbooks, and operational documentation
Ensure compliance with security, audit, and data retention policies

Technical Skills Required

Core Backup Skills

Hands-on experience with:

Veeam Backup & Replication
Commvault (CommCell, Media Agent, Libraries)

Strong understanding of:

Backup types (Full, Incremental, Differential)
Retention policies and lifecycle management
RPO, RTO, and DR strategies

Infrastructure & Platform Knowledge

Virtualization: VMware / Hyper-V
Operating Systems: Windows & basic Linux
Storage: SAN, NAS, Disk, Tape Libraries
Networking fundamentals (firewall, ports, connectivity)
