Network Engineer

Job Overview:

Looking for an IT professional to oversee WAN inventory management, daily operations, vendor coordination, and strategic network optimization. This role will ensure comprehensive WAN service tracking, timely execution of moves/additions/changes (MACs), and delivery of actionable insights through regular reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise in WAN technologies with strong leadership and project management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Network Inventory Management:

Maintain a centralized, continuously updated WAN inventory database including circuits, bandwidth, locations, and service activation details.

Conduct regular audits to ensure data integrity and synchronization across systems.

Ensure inventory data is exportable and accessible to internal stakeholders at all times.

Identify and recommend decommissioning of underutilized or redundant circuits to optimize costs.

Daily WAN Operations (MACs):

Manage bandwidth adjustment requests, service provisioning, modifications, and decommissioning of network circuits.

Coordinate changes with vendors and internal stakeholders to minimize network disruption.

Monitoring and Reporting:

Generate daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports covering network health, bandwidth utilization, vendor performance, SLA adherence, and issue tracking.

Provide recommendations for network optimization and cost reduction.

Strategic Planning and Technology Evaluation:

Conduct quarterly assessments of WAN performance, growth, and optimization opportunities.

Evaluate emerging WAN technologies (e.g., SD-WAN, 5G, Starlink) and recommend potential adoption.

Develop and maintain a strategic network roadmap aligned with business goals.

Track and validate ISP billing to ensure accurate charges and eliminate overbilling/leakages.

Vendor Coordination & SLA Management:

Serve as the primary point of contact for all WAN service providers.

Track SLA compliance, manage contracts, and ensure timely resolution of vendor-related issues.

Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to compare pricing or bandwidth sizing optimization opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Experience:

WAN infrastructure management and network operations.

exposure to bandwidth optimization, vendor management, and executing MACs.

Technical Skills:

Proficient in Excel, Power BI, and database management tools.

understanding of WAN technologies and network infrastructure.

Leadership & Project Management:

Ability to oversee daily activities/deliverables while maintaining strategic oversight.

Skilled in managing multiple tasks and deliverables across daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly cycles.

Communication:

Strong vendor and internal stakeholder coordination skills.

Ability to present (not necessarily create) technical insights and recommendations in a clear, actionable manner.

Deliverables Ownership:

Daily MAC logs and issue tracking updates.

Weekly activity summaries and vendor coordination reports
