Cyber Security Analyst

About the Role

A Queensland Government organisation is seeking an experienced Cyber Security Analyst to strengthen its enterprise security capability.

In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring, analysing, and improving cyber security across infrastructure and systems, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated effectively. You’ll play a key part in incident response, vulnerability management, and security uplift initiatives, while supporting compliance with government security frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse infrastructure security issues and recommend practical solutions and improvements
• Lead incident response activities, including triage and investigation of SOC alerts
• Conduct threat and vulnerability management, including assessments and prioritisation
• Perform risk assessments, vulnerability scans, access audits, and penetration testing
• Develop and maintain cyber security policies, standards, and frameworks
• Support audit and assurance activities, including compliance reporting
• Deliver security awareness training to promote a strong security culture
• Maintain technical documentation (e.g. firewall rules, ACLs, procedures)
• Collaborate with stakeholders, vendors, and technical teams to ensure secure operations

Highly Desirable Criteria

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Cyber Security Analyst or similar technical role
• Strong understanding of cyber security frameworks (e.g. IS18, Essential Eight, NIST)
• Experience in incident response, vulnerability management, and risk assessment
• Knowledge of enterprise security tools, infrastructure, and network security
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience supporting audit, compliance, and governance activities

Desirable Criteria

• Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Cyber Security, or related field
• Industry certifications in Cyber Security, Networking, or Cloud (e.g. Azure)
• Experience working in government or regulated environments
