Data Protection Officer/Senior Legal Counsel

As the Data Protection Officer & Senior Legal Counsel, you will report directly to the Board and Head of Legal at KuCoin EU, while working in close partnership with the broader Legal team and business leaders across the organization. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape and safeguard our data protection framework in a rapidly evolving sector.

Key Responsibilities: What You’ll Be Doing

• Serve as the primary point of contact for data protection inquiries from internal departments and external data protection authorities.

• Ensure full compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable data protection laws.

• Design, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and customer-facing documentation related to data protection.

• Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to proactively identify and mitigate potential data protection vulnerabilities.

• Provide expert guidance to internal teams on personal data handling best practices, supporting projects and new product launches from a legal and data protection perspective, and developing practical, compliant solutions.

• Oversee the monitoring and response to data breaches, ensuring timely and accurate reporting as required.

• Develop and deliver training and awareness programs to educate employees on data protection and privacy obligations.

• Maintain comprehensive records of data processing activities and uphold transparency in all data-handling practices.

• Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of legal documents to support organizational needs.

What We Look For In You

• Proven experience as a Data Protection Officer or in a comparable role within data protection or privacy law.

• Extensive knowledge of GDPR, national data protection regulations, and industry-leading practices.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a meticulous approach to complex challenges.

• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organization.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with clarity and professionalism in all interactions.

Nice-to-Haves

• Bar qualification and/or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM).

• Prior in-house experience within a FinTech or similarly regulated industry.

• Demonstrated professional or personal enthusiasm for cryptocurrencies, Web3, and blockchain technology.
