Cyber Security Architect

The Role:

An Application Security Specialist is responsible for ensuring that software applications are designed, developed, and maintained with strong security controls in place. Working closely with development, DevOps, and risk teams, the specialist integrates security throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC), helping to identify and remediate vulnerabilities early while fostering a secure development culture across the organization.

Knowledge / Experience

• Secure Development Practices: Full understanding of how to integrate application security into the architecture and design of an application through utilization of the SDLC model, using best practices throughput the entire life cycle of an application.

• Strong knowledge of secure coding standards (OWASP ASVS), threat modelling, and the OWASP Top 10.

• Industry Standards: Knowledge of industry standards and frameworks (e.g., OWASP ASVS, NIST, ISO 27001) and regulatory environments (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS).

• Tooling and Automation: Proficiency in security tools such as SAST, DAST, SCA, and their integration into CI/CD pipelines.

• Vulnerability management expert: Remediation and monitoring expert from a software engineering perspective

• Risk-Based Analysis: Ability to assess vulnerabilities by business impact and prioritize remediation efforts accordingly.

• Collaboration and Communication: Skilled in working with developers, product owners, and leadership to embed security as a shared responsibility.

• Security Advocacy and Community Leadership: Ability to lead and inspire the software engineering community around secure development. Promotes a shift-left mindset, builds awareness, and drives adoption of application security practices through strong communication, coaching, and cultural engagement. Experience from Security Champion Program development and leadership is a merit.

• Strategic Contribution: Provides input to the enterprise’s application security strategy, aligning initiatives with business goals and helping to shape scalable, long-term approaches to secure software development.

Key Experience

• Multi year experience of implementation of AppSec controls, principles and culture in a global enterprise organization.
