Software Engineer (Orbit Determination Team)

ICEYE
Poland · Full-time · Entry

Role highlights:

  • Software Engineer
  • Location: Espoo, Finland / Warsaw, Poland
  • Department: Spacecraft Analysis, Orbit and Attitude Control
  • Reports to: Engineering Lead, Orbit Determination
  • Employment type: Permanent
  • Workplace model: Hybrid
  • Employment is subject to applicable security screening (incl. SUPO, where required)

Why this role matters:

As a Software Engineer, you'll ensure that high-accuracy orbit determination products are continuously available to internal and external customers. Your work directly supports the precise tracking and prediction of ICEYE's satellite fleet, enabling reliable mission planning, satellite operations, and delivery of time-critical Earth Observation data to customers worldwide.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team of software and flight dynamics engineers building and operating a critical software service that computes where our satellites have been and where they are going. By combining robust distributed systems engineering with astrodynamics, you will help translate complex physical constraints into reliable, automated software solutions that operate in both cloud and on-prem environments.

Who We Are

ICEYE delivers space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to governments and allied nations. This includes sovereign and turnkey ISR missions leveraging ICEYE's world-leading synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology, as well as access to data from the world's largest SAR satellite constellation. These capabilities enable partners to detect and respond to critical changes anywhere on Earth with unprecedented speed and accuracy, day or night and in any weather, supported by ultra high-resolution imagery and high-frequency revisits.

As a trusted partner for defense, intelligence, security, and maritime domain awareness, ICEYE's near real-time data creates a tactical advantage for mission-critical operations. Designed for dual use, the platform also serves civil protection and commercial users for natural-catastrophe intelligence, insurance, maritime monitoring including oil-spill detection, and finance, contributing to global security and community resilience.

ICEYE is headquartered in Finland and operates globally across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. We have more than 900 employees, united by a shared vision: improving life on Earth by becoming the global source of truth in Earth Observation.

Your Day-to-day Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain orbit determination software used to track ICEYE's satellite fleet and model the evolution of position and velocity over time
  • Build and ship production-ready software services running in containerized on-prem and cloud environments
  • Own, monitor, and debug operational issues across the full software lifecycle, from development to production
  • Collaborate with software and flight dynamics engineers to balance high-fidelity state estimation with high availability and low-latency data delivery

What We're Looking For

Must haves:

  • 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and delivering software systems in containerized environments
  • Strong experience with Python and Java or Kotlin in production systems
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and automated testing practices
  • Experience designing and maintaining REST APIs and working with databases for timely data storage and retrieval
  • Practical familiarity with cloud and infrastructure technologies such as AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code tools
  • Ability to communicate complex software concepts clearly to multidisciplinary stakeholders

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with time-series databases such as TimescaleDB or InfluxDB
  • Knowledge of state estimation principles such as Kalman filtering, state propagation, and statistical analysis
  • Experience designing and operating high-availability services and using monitoring tools such as Grafana or Datadog

Application Process

  • Talent Attraction screening
  • Hiring Manager interview, 60 minutes
  • Task and technical interview, 60 minutes
  • Onsite technical team workshop, 90 minutes
  • Onsite individual behavior and mindset interview, 60 minutes
