About the Role
We're a small, fast-moving team working across both client-facing products and internal tools. You'll be our embedded designer, shaping work across both sides of the business, from client briefs through to the products we build and use ourselves.
This role is for someone who is past needing constant direction. You take a fuzzy problem, run with it, and come back with something that's been thought through from the user's perspective and the business's. You're comfortable where design and product decisions blur together, and you want more of that.
You'll also own our design practice itself: setting standards, maintaining processes, and making sure we're using AI tools effectively to work smarter. We take AI seriously as part of how we design, not just as a novelty, and we're looking for someone who does too.
What You'll Do
Client Work
- Translate client briefs into well-considered design solutions, asking the right questions before picking up Figma
- Manage the design process on client projects from discovery through to delivery, communicating progress clearly along the way
- Present work confidently to clients and incorporate feedback without losing the thread of what makes the solution good
- Collaborate with the broader team to ensure design and delivery are aligned throughout
Internal Products
- Own features end-to-end on internal projects, from brief to shipped, accessible experience
- Produce wireframes, prototypes, and final specs, and review implementation with engineers to make sure quality lands
- Bring product thinking to internal builds: define success metrics, challenge scope, and follow up after launch
Research
- Plan and run lightweight research (interviews, usability tests, concept validation) for both client and internal work
- Synthesise findings into clear, actionable insights and share them with the right people
- Use analytics to spot friction and validate design decisions
Product Thinking
- Challenge problem definitions (client and internal) before jumping to solutions
- Write short opportunity briefs when you spot a meaningful gap worth exploring
- Bring design-led ideas to roadmap conversations backed by evidence
Design Practice & AI
- Own and evolve our design practices: documentation, workflows, and standards
- Identify where AI tools can meaningfully improve design speed and quality, and put them into practice
- Keep our approach to design current, evaluating new tools and methods as they emerge
- Share what's working across the team, building a lightweight culture of continuous improvement
What We're Looking For
Must-Have
- 3–5 years of product / UX design experience, ideally across a mix of client and product work
- A portfolio showing end-to-end work, from problem framing through to shipped product
- Strong fundamentals: layout, typography, interaction design, accessibility
- Confident in Figma (components, auto-layout, prototyping)
- Experience running your own user research and synthesising it independently
- Clear communicator who can present to a client and talk tradeoffs with a founder in the same day
- Hands-on experience using AI tools in your design workflow (not just awareness, but actual practice)
PM-Lean Experience (Strongly Valued)
- You've pushed back on a brief (client or internal) and shaped what got built
- You've defined metrics for design work and followed up on them
- You've contributed to a roadmap or project direction with something more than "here's the design"
Nice to Have
- Experience managing client relationships or design deliverables in an agency or consultancy setting
- B2B SaaS, fintech, or marketplace product background
- Basic front-end knowledge (HTML/CSS, React component model)
- Experience in an early-stage or startup environment
What Success Looks Like
30 days: You're across both client and internal work in flight. You've asked smart questions about what success looks like on at least one project.
90 days: You're delivering confidently on client briefs and own something meaningful on the internal side. You've run a research session independently and proposed at least one improvement that landed.
6 months: You're a trusted voice in product and client conversations alike. You've made a tangible improvement to how we work: a new AI workflow, a cleaner process, or a design standard that didn't exist before.
Interview Process
- Intro call + portfolio walkthrough (30 min)
- Take-home design exercise (2–3 hrs)
- Presentation to the founding / product team
- Culture conversation
For your portfolio, show us your thinking. How you got to the solution matters more than the final screens. If you have an example of shaping a project direction, or of using AI meaningfully in your process, include it.
