Graduate Vessel Market Analyst – Offshore & Shipping
Oslo, Norway | Full time | Start: August 2026
Location
This role is based in Oslo and only candidates able to work on site in Oslo will be considered. We unfortunately do not offer relocation support. Only applicants holding a valid EU/EEA work permit can be considered.
About Esgian
Esgian is a leading provider of data, analytics and market intelligence for the offshore and shipping industries. Our Vessel Analytics products help clients across the energy and maritime sectors make smarter, faster decisions. We are a growing, data-driven company with deep market expertise and an international and collaborative team culture.
We are a company built for forward motion. Our team of more than 20 people brings together ten nationalities with strong diversity across backgrounds, perspectives and professional experiences. This diversity is something we are proud of and it shapes how we think, act and innovate.
We move fast, challenge assumptions and push for better ways of understanding markets through technology, data and deep industry insight.
The Role
We welcome applications from graduates and early career candidates who have a genuine interest in offshore and shipping markets. If you enjoy working with data, want to understand how vessel markets behave and are motivated by real-time industry dynamics, this role offers a direct entry into a specialised and growing analytical environment. We are currently building our position in the offshore shipping market — and this analyst will be close to that work from day one, contributing to product development and strategy rather than sitting at the edge of it.
We value curiosity, initiative and a willingness to challenge the status quo. We look for people who explore new tools, embrace new technologies and want to help build the future of maritime market intelligence. At Esgian, strong performers influence how the company grows and evolves.
Graduate development
This is a graduate-friendly role with structured onboarding and close collaboration with senior analysts. In your first months you'll learn our vessel fleet, data standards and core workflows, and you'll gradually take ownership of a defined market segment and the quality of its dataset.
What success looks like (first 6–12 months)
- Own the daily monitoring and updates for one or more vessel segments, meeting our quality and timeliness standards
- Produce regular short written market articles and contribute to deeper research pieces with guidance
- Build confidence with our tools (Excel from day one; exposure to Python/SQL/BI as relevant) and apply them to improve data quality and insight
- Develop a working understanding of key customers, stakeholders and industry terminology, and contribute to client and product conversations
- Play an active role in Esgian's entry into the offshore shipping market, contributing analytical work and industry insight that directly shapes product and commercial decisions
What You'll Do
- Monitor daily developments across offshore and shipping vessel markets
- Maintain critical vessel and market datasets used across our analytics products
- Assist with outreach and communication with commercial, operational, financial and technical market participants
- Contribute to analytical notes, market commentary and insight products
- Support forecast work, research tasks and product development discussions
- Support the product team in improving our software through industry insight, structured dialogue with customers and close contact with leading market participants
- Assist the commercial team in preparing materials and insights for clients
What We're Looking For
You likely have:
- A degree in engineering, economics, finance or another analytical field (graduation no later than summer 2026)
- Demonstrated interest in offshore or shipping through internships, projects or relevant academic work
- Strong quantitative skills and comfort working with datasets
- Strong writing skills with the ability to produce original, clear and structured work
- Confidence presenting findings to internal and external audiences
- High attention to detail and structured working habits
- Proficiency in Excel
- Interest or early exposure to tools like Python, SQL or Power BI (advantage not requirement)
- Fluency in English; Other languages are an advantage but not a requirement
Who You Are
- Analytical, curious and motivated by understanding real world markets
- Interested in technology and data as tools for clarity and insight
- Curious about AI and uses it responsibly. Ability to explain and verify outputs
- Someone who thinks about how new tools can make analysis faster, clearer and more insightful
- Entrepreneurial in mindset with a readiness to learn, improve and take smart risk
- Comfortable shaping new approaches and contributing to a company that is scaling
- A clear communicator who thrives in a diverse international environment
Why Join Esgian?
- Direct exposure to real time market activity across global offshore and shipping markets
- A genuine chance to contribute to something being built, not just maintain something that already exists - your work will be visible, valued and connected to decisions that matter
- A diverse and multicultural team across many dimensions
- A learning driven environment with access to experienced maritime and offshore specialists
- The opportunity to influence how a growing company builds its products and position in the market
- Competitive compensation and benefits
- Oslo based office with occasional travel to industry events
